French Gunners boast too much
Paul Scholes last night told Euro 2004 favourites France: Do your talking on the pitch... not off it. Two days before England’s clash with France, Scholes revealed: “The feeling at United is there is a bit of boastfulness about Arsenal’s French contingent but maybe that is just the way they are, confident people who say what they think. I read that Pires reckons they are going to beat us 3-1. So they must be ultra-confident. Well, we’ll see. Whatever is said before a game the only thing that matters is what happens out on the pitch. I have to admit that everyone at United takes more enjoyment about beating Arsenal than anyone else. There is an intense rivalry between us and, even though this is an international, there will be an element of that."

Scholes: We´ll thrive on French jibes
The bitter feuding between Manchester United and Arsenal last night spilled over into the build-up to Sunday´s titanic England-France clash. United midfielder Paul Scholes blamed the bragging of Arsenal wide man Robert Pires for stoking up tension before the Euro 2004 showdown. And he said United´s players had grown used to the Gunners´ French contingent shooting from the lip during their fierce rivalry in the Premiership. When asked about Pires and Thierry Henry holding court in the French camp and " talking a lot" about the England game, Scholes smiled. " Not like them, is it," he said. " There´s a feeling there is sometimes some boastfulness about the French contingent at Arsenal. I think it´s just the way they are. It´s a motivation to bring them down a peg or two, but it would be nice to say that after the game. It would be nice to say that wound us up."

Scholes: I´m a netcase
The ball curled invitingly in behind a static Iceland defence. Paul Scholes moved in for the kill. Just six yards out, his right boot connected powerfully on the volley. The ball flashed goalwards and... whoosh! It disappeared harmlessly over the bar. As England prepared to take on France in Le Crunch on Sunday, Scholes spoke about his concerns over his goal drought — and how he desperately wanted to pay back Eriksson for his unstinting loyalty. Scholes, 29, admitted: “To say I’ve had an indifferent time for England would be a massive understatement. What I have to do now is return Sven´s faith some time by scoring some goals. People have said to me before that I don’t seem to suffer from a lack of confidence but you most certainly do when you haven’t scored for as long as me. It definitely preys on your mind. But I’m not hiding. And I’m not scared."

Heinze swoop
Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson will sign defender Gabriel Heinze today. The Argentina star, 26, makes the move from Paris St Germain for £6million. Ferguson has now splashed out £13m this summer after signing Leeds striker Alan Smith for £7m. Heinze was linked with a move to Chelsea last season.

United Shea-ker
John O´Shea will be the odd man out at Manchester United next season - with the arrival of Argentine Gabriel Heinze. The Irish international is being squeezed out by the £6million signing of Heinze from Paris St Germain. Heinze and Silvestre will share the left-hand defensive duties.

Van Nistelrooy to start
Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy appears to have won the battles with Patrick Kluivert to lead Holland´s attack against Germany on Tuesday. Dutch coach Dick Advocaat said yesterday: " I have played Kluivert before because he is good in practice, but some players are good in practice but not in matches. Van Nistelrooy is certainly good in matches."

Ruud mind games
Manchester United and Holland striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has learned a lot about mind games from the master, Sir Alex Ferguson. He has claimed an edge over Italy´s Alessandro Del Piero after beating him in an impromptu keepy-uppy contest with Pringles containers while filming a tv ad. ´A great day for me´, taunted Van Nistelrooy.

Manchester United have approached Parma about young starlet Alessandro Rossina.
The 20 year-old winger was a star at the U21 European championships and was spotted by United scouts.
United have asked for more information about Rossina, who spent last season in the Primavera.

Man Utd sign £6m Heinze
Manchester United have completed the signing of Argentina defender Gabriel Heinze from Paris St Germain for £6m.
The 26-year-old, United´s second summer buy after £7m Alan Smith, has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford.
" I have committed myself for the next five seasons with Manchester United. But I have loads of emotion about leaving PSG. I owe them a lot."
" But my dream is coming true by joining Man Utd. I am going to keep working hard on the other side of the Channel."
Before joining PSG, Heinze played for Valladolid in Spain and Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.
United will not have to find a work permit for Heinze as he holds a German passport.
Chelsea reportedly made a £7m bid for the player in January, but PSG insisted Heinze would not be allowed to leave until the end of the season.
Heinze added: " We have not yet discussed which position I will play," he said.
" I don´t know whether it will be in central defence or left-back. All they said is that they wanted me.
" They have shown great motivation to snatch my services even though I did not talk directly with Sir Alex Ferguson."
toujours rien d´officiel coté MU
Ouais, mais c´est officiel sur le site du PSG, donc ça doit être bon.
j´espére mais j´attends quand méme la confirmaztion
ROUX: MEXES SNUBBING UNITED
Auxerre boss Guy Roux has revealed that Philippe Mexes is snubbing Manchester United in order to try and secure a move to Roma.
The promising centre back has been a long-standing target for Sir Alex Ferguson for many years but the Frenchman prefers a switch to Stadio Olimpico as he is concerned about his first team prospects at Old Trafford.
Presumably, Mexes was another option to Paris Saint Germain´s Gabriel Heinze, who has agreed a five-year contract with Ferguson´s men.
" Philippe´s agents refused ( United´s offer)," Roux told L´Equipe.
" They were not sure he would play.
" With Roma, there is still a gap.
" We were 1 to 4 before the start of the meeting. Now we are only 1 to 1.8, so we are on the right track.
" I hope there will be a new meeting.
" Some contact is forecast for this weekend.
" Mr ( Franco) Baldini has to talk with his chairman."
Roma´s sports director Baldini was negotiating the deal with Auxerre this week.
