HEINZE SIGNS - WITHOUT FERGIE TALKS

Paris Saint Germain´s Gabriel Heinze has confirmed he has signed a five-year contract with Manchester United, despite not meeting Sir Alex Ferguson personally.

The Argentina international admitted he had original contact about six weeks ago and The Red Devils were the club most interested in signing him.

" I had the first contact about a month and a half ago," he told L´Equipe. " But I didn´t want to talk about it out of respect for PSG, who had an important end of season.

" It is obvious, when such a big club contacts you, it makes you think a lot.

" Manchester have shown the greatest will to sign me, even if I didn´t talk directly talk with Alex Ferguson.

" We have not talked yet to know if I will play in the centre or on the left flank.

" They just said they wanted to sign me.

" I have improved a lot at Paris.

" Today, I am leaving with my head held high. But I feel a kind of sadness, even if I was determined to leave as soon as a good offer arrived.

" Perhaps one day, I will come back.

" You know, in my mind, I have not left yet."

Bundesliga champions Werder Bremen say they are interested in United´s Brazilian midfielder Kleberson.

Bremen´s Sport Director, Klaus Allofs, confirmed on the club´s website that they are interested in a loan deal for the Reds midfielder or his fellow countryman Roque Junior of AC Milan.

Kleberson, 24, who signed for United from Brazilian side Atletico Paranaense for just under £6m in August, has seen his debut season in England disrupted by injury.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson indicated toward the end of the season that, given time, Kleberson would settle at the club.

TOFFEES KEEN TO OPEN ROONEY TALKS

Everton´s chief executive Trevor Birch has revealed The Toffees are keen to open contract negotiations with starlet Wayne Rooney in a bid to resolve his long-term future.
The England international is being consistently linked with moves to Chelsea and Manchester United, however manager David Moyes is desperate to retain his services.

Everton put Rooney´s contract talks on hold after the club announced a freeze on all negotiations in December, but the Merseyside outfit now want to resolve his situation.

The 18-year-old is currently away on international duty with The Three Lions in Portugal preparing for Euro 2004, however that is not a deterrent to The Toffees.

Birch is happy to fly out to the European Championship in a bid to conclude talks, and the club are simply waiting to be given the go-ahead by the teenager´s representatives.

" We have always made clear our desire to see Wayne Rooney commit his long-term future to this football club and, to that end, we would be happy to open talks with the player and his representatives about a new contract at any point - indeed, we are anxious to do just that," explained Birch to the club´s official website.

" Although Wayne is currently in Portugal with the England squad we would be perfectly happy to open these negotiations either during the course of the European Championship or immediately after they have concluded.

" The offer of a new, long-term contract will be made to Wayne. As soon as we are given the go-ahead, talks will open."

Gabriel Heinze vient de parapher son contrat avec Manchester United. Le défenseur parisien s´est engagé pour une durée de 5 ans.
" J´ai signé à Manchester pour les 5 prochaines saisons. Mais je suis très ému de quitter le PSG", a confié le défenseur argentin. " Je dois beaucoup à ce club", a-t-il ajouté.

" Je réalise un rêve en venant à Manchester", a précisé Heinze. " Je vais continuer à travailler dur de l´autre côté de la Manche".

De manière assez surprenante, l´Argentin a expliqué ne pas avoir rencontré son nouvel entraîneur, Alex Ferguson. " Je ne me suis pas entretenu directement avec lui. Mais j´ai senti que le club me voulait".

" Je ne sais pas encore si j´évoluerai dans l´axe ou sur le côté gauche", a-t-il précisé concernant son positionnement chez les Red Devils.

Le montant du transfert est de 6 millions de livres ( environ 9 M€).

Manchester United is pleased to announce that it has agreed terms with Paris St Germain for the transfer of Argentine Defender, Gabriel Heinze.

The total consideration for this transfer is £6.9 million. The player has signed a five-year contract that will see him at the club until 30th June 2009.

Gabriel Heinze said: " I am extremely proud to sign for such a great Club. It is a very important step in my football career to join Manchester United and I have faith and great belief that I can meet the high expectations required".

Sir Alex Ferguson said: " We have been monitoring Gabriel for a long time and he demonstrates all the qualities of the top Argentinian defenders – strength, speed and excellent technical ability. He can play either as a central defender or left back and this flexibility means that he is a great acquisition for the Club."

The total consideration for the transfer is £6.9 million ( £5.7 million
payable to Paris Saint - Germain, £0.3 million potentially payable under the
FIFA 5% solidarity levy, £0.3 million levy payable to the FA Premier League and
£0.6 million fees payable to agents in relation to both the acquisition of the
player and negotiation of his contract).

The fee payable to Paris Saint-Germain is payable as follows - £3.4 million in
July 2004, £1.3 million on 31 December 2004 and £1.0 million in July 2005. Of
the agent fees £0.1 million is payable immediately and the balance is payable in
quarterly instalments over the duration of the player´s contract.

What made you decide to join United?
”I think lots of different factors helped. The most important one is that it is a massive club. But, certainly lots of different factors helped.”
