Sir Alex a propos de Wes ^^
=>Wes Brown could become the best defender England has ever produced. That is the startling admission of United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Wes, 23, has combined with Rio Ferdinand this season to form the most formidable defensive partnership in the top flight.
United have the best defensive record in the Premiership this term – conceding just nine league goals at Old Trafford.
Sir Alex said: “I said it about Wes when he was only 18 and I said it again a year later," Fergie told the Manchester Evening News. " And I am saying it again right now. If he stays clear of injuries, Wes Brown will become the best defender England has ever produced."
Such praise could lead to complacency and arrogance with some players, but Ferguson says the United defender will keep his feet firmly rooted to the ground.
" Brown has learned how to do his own job and he is happy to get on with it and let Ferdinand do all the shouting and bawling,” he said. " One of the great things about Wes is that he never gets carried away by any good publicity. He is a lovely lad who keeps his feet very firmly on the ground.”
And Fergie says Brown´s good form could be something to do with him keeping his feet firmly on the ground during games. He said: " Picking up serious injuries like that was a big worry for me and it was very important for the lad to stay fit for an extended period of time. But he knows now when to tackle and when not to and that has made the difference."
Ferguson’s comments come just days after Wes was recalled to the England international set-up, a place that a player of his ability belongs.
Brown has been desperately unlucky having seen his early United career blighted by injuries - a broken ankle earlier this season was the latest in a long line of setbacks.
But since being thrown back in at the deep end against West Ham in November with only an hour of reserve team football under his belt, Wes hasn´t looked back. In the United defence alongside Rio Ferdinand, who joins Brown in the England squad top face Australia at Upton Park, Wes has blossomed.
The fact that the pair could be forming a defensive partnership for both club and country for years to come, has left Ferguson hoping for a dominant duo similar to that of Bruce and Pallister in successful Reds team of the nineties.
He said: “"Since the days of Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister we have never had a partnership at central defence like the one which Brown and Ferdinand are giving us now," Sir Alex said.
" That is something we have missed because Bruce and Pallister were key players in the success we enjoyed throughout the nineties. I see a bit of Bruce and Pallister in Rio and Wes in the way they complement each other,” Fergie added.
