Ronaldinho has fuelled rumours he is on his way to Manchester United after admitting it would be a " tremendous honour" to move to Old Trafford.

The unsettled Brazilian´s club, Paris St Germain, have already claimed United have requested a meeting to discuss the player.

And on Sunday he said a move to the Premiership club was a " concrete possibility".

" When I think what it would be like to work with and learn from a master like Ferguson, I get goose bumps," he told the Sunday Herald.

" Right now it´s just speculation, right? But I would be lying if I said that English football isn´t one of my ambitions.

" And the way things are looking right now, playing in the Premiership, at Manchester United in particular, is more than just a dream."

Ronaldinho still has three years remaining on his current contract but Paris St Germain are said to be willing to part with the player for £12m.

He added: " If PSG and United reach an agreement and everyone is happy with it, I´ll be very proud to come.

" What more can I say about Manchester United? Everyone knows how powerful and respected they are in every corner of the globe. It would be a tremendous honour to be the first Brazilian in history to play for them."

Ronaldinho has endured a troubled season in the French capital after a public fall-out with boss Luis Fernandez.

The Brazilian originally cost £4.2m from Gremio Porto Alegre two years ago but they also paid an additional £12.8m to the player and a company called Sportfive, which owns his image rights.

Ferguson certain of Euro success

Ferguson´s contract expires in two years
Sir Alex Ferguson is confident that Manchester United can win the Champions League within the next two years.
The United boss guided his side to their eighth Premiership title in 11 seasons earlier this month, but saw his team crash out of Europe to Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.

But Ferguson, who has two years left on his current contract, is confident the club can repeat their European success of 1999.

He said: " We can be proud of what we have contributed to the Champions League over the last couple of seasons, and I honestly believe that we are very close now to where we want to be.

" We are improving all the time and I think the only thing we lack now is experience - particularly in defence.

Ronaldinho keen on Man Utd move

" The game in Madrid illustrated just what is so good about Manchester United, and the things we have to improve on.

" My defenders didn´t want to be left alone with the likes of Ronaldo or Raul. They didn´t have the belief to handle them one-on-one.

" I know they are good enough to do it. I know they can handle the best players in the world and in the next couple of seasons they will start to share that belief.

" I´ve got another two years left on my contract and I think we are definitely capable of winning the Champions League in that time."

" Future prospects enhanced for Reds kids"

Manchester United today unveiled their sixth link-up with an overseas football club.

The newly-announced " co-operation agreement" with Sporting Lisbon is designed to nurture young talent, widen the scouting net and may also involve player exchanges.

United have similar such agreements with Royal Antwerp of Belgium, Brommapojkarna of Sweden, Shelbourne of Ireland, Parramatta Melita Eagles of Australia and Oslo East of Norway.

John O´Shea, who burst onto the Old Trafford scene in such emphatic fashion this season, vouches for the success of the player exchange system. In season 2000/01 the 22-year-old Irishman spent three months with Belgian outfit Royal Antwerp.

The experience was an important part of O´Shea´s education as a Manchester United youngster. He impressed immensely during his time in Belgium and United are now bearing the fruits of his labours, given the way he performed in this season, his first as a first-team regular.

O´Shea himself said of the experience: " I was fortunate because I played in virtually every game so it worked out very well for me and I got on very well with everyone over there.

" A lot of people said to me that when I came back they noticed a big change in my game so I was very happy with that. Getting that competitive game week in week out was important. It improves your concentration and your confidence as well," O´Shea added.

The new link-up with Sporting Lisbon will surely provide many other opportunities for potential first team United players.

FA took £1m to play Becks
The FA were last night sensationally accused of pocketing £1million after guaranteeing David Beckham would play against South Africa. The England captain was left with a broken thumb after starring in Thursday´s showpiece game in Durban, which the South Africans hope will boost their chances of hosting the 2010 World Cup. And last night it was claimed Beckham was cynically traded by the FA, who helped reduce their own debt mountain by charging for his services. Danny Jordaan, chief executive of South Africa´s 2010 World Cup campaign, insisted money did change hands after the FA promised Becks would not only be the perfect ambassador in South Africa - but play as well. He confirmed: " Beckham had to be here - that is correct. There was a programme, but specific to him, and he fulfilled his obligations."

Pawns in a PR disaster
Michael Owen last night hit out at England´s PR pantomime to South Africa which left David Beckham sidelined for eight weeks with a broken wrist and the rest of the nation´s stars feeling the strain. Owen takes over from the injured Beckham as England captain in the build-up to the June 3 friendly with Serbia & Montenegro and the vital Euro 2004 qualifier with Slovakia eight days later.

Beckham´s high profile is making millions for England... at what cost?
The revelation that England would not have gone to South Africa without David Beckham confirms the extraordinary influence the captain now wields. But the cost to squad morale of last week´s trip may eventually come to outweigh the £3million England earned from it. Beckham´s manager at Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson, has long tired of the circus surrounding the England skipper. Fergie has made the point more than once that the world does not revolve around one player, a man who likes to make fashion statements at every opportunity. But the fact remains that if Beckham puts on a skirt or wears a hairband he gains more column inches than the rest of United´s Premiership-winning side. Now there are fears that the high public profile Beckham has around the world is leading to a similar situation within the England squad. One England player, who asked not to be named, said: " Has it now got completely out of hand? Who runs the England team, is it David Beckham? He has become far too big for his own designer boots and it´s extremely dangerous when players enjoy that sort of power."

FA: We´re in clear over Rio
Rio Ferdinand was one of three England players to miss training in La Manga yesterday as the FA insisted the Manchester United defender´s fitness had not been risked against South Africa. Ferdinand had a scan on a knee problem last Thursday, but was given the go-ahead to take part in the friendly in Durban that evening. He was substituted at half-time, saying afterwards: " I hope it´s not that serious, but it has got gradually worse and I´m just keeping my fingers crossed." Ferdinand flew to Spain with the squad yesterday while David Beckham left for treatment on the broken bone in his wrist. The centre-back was put through a gym session along with Paul Scholes, who also sustained a knock to his knee. FA spokesman Adrian Bevington said: " We would like to make it quite clear that while Rio went for a scan last Thursday, it was done with the complete agreement of United. The scan showed that Rio was okay to play."

We´ll top Europe in two years
Sir Alex Ferguson has unveiled the Manchester United masterplan he has designed to bring the European Cup back to Old Trafford inside the next two years. An eighth Premiership title in 11 seasons may have compensated United for their epic Champions League capitulation at the hands of Real Madrid. But Ferguson´s desire for success will not be sated until his team are once again crowned kings of the continent. He will be watching from an unfamiliar seat in the Old Trafford stands when Juventus and AC Milan collide in this year´s final on Wednesday night. But rather than trouble himself with thoughts of what could have been, Ferguson will instead look to the future, consoled by his belief that United will emulate their achievements of 1968 and 1999 before his current contract expires in May 2005. " I am not talking about a change of style here, because at Manchester United we have a philosophy about how the game should be played - and that will never change. The game in Madrid illustrated just what is so good about Manchester United, and the things we have to improve on. My defenders didn´t want to be left alone with the likes of Ronaldo or Raul. They didn´t have the belief to handle them one-on-one. I know they are good enough to do it. I know they can handle the best players in the world and in the next couple of seasons they will start to share that belief."

Time to act over dives
Sir Alex Ferguson has blamed foreign players for importing the sinister art of diving into Britain - and called on managers to stamp it out. Ferguson was as incensed as anyone by the antics of Porto as they overcame Celtic in the UEFA Cup Final in Seville in midweek. And Juventus defender Paolo Montero has already admitted that he will stoop to any level to ensure that the Turin club beat Milan in the Champions League Final on Wednesday. It´s a practice that Ferguson insists was unique to the continent before the widespread introduction of foreigners to the Premiership. And he said: " It is the responsibility of managers in this country to do something about the amount of diving that now goes on in the game. A bit of play-acting has always gone on, but diving has started creeping into the English game recently and it has really accelerated over the last three years. It is one of the things that foreign players have brought here and it´s not good."

Bart seeks £1m pay-off from United
Fabien Barthez is cleared to leave Manchester United - but he won´t go without a £1million golden handshake. The French keeper knows Monaco coach Didier Deschamps - his old national skipper - wants him. But although they can offer tax-free living and Champions League football Monaco cannot match his £60,000-a-week United wages, and Barthez wants a pay-off to make up for it. United know there will only be a small transfer fee for the keeper who cost £7m three seasons ago, and are reluctant to lose out financially on the deal. But the only way Barthez will be able to move is if he is cheap and has his pockets filled to go. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is on the hunt for two keepers because he will also let Roy Carroll join Birmingham City.

Me and Ruud would make a swell pairo
Alessandro Del Piero today reveals why he would choose Ruud van Nistelrooy as his perfect partner. The Italian superstar chose to speak to The SP in the week he plays in the European Cup Final. And in an exclusive interview, Del Piero - one of the world´s finest players - says: " If I could pick to play with one British-based star, it would be Van Nistelrooy. He´d be a perfect partner for me. He has the desire to succeed, has wonderfully quick feet, is a very brave player, a thinking striker, who has an incredible eye for goal." Striker Del Piero, who will line up at Old Trafford for Juventus against AC Milan on Wednesday, also reckons David Beckham will be a major star in Italy. Speaking from Turin, Del Piero said: " Beckham has the choice of any club in any country, worldwide but I would be astonished if Manchester United allowed him to leave. If he came to Italy, he could certainly play here and be an unqualified success."

Fergie needs to spring clean his foreign office
I´m sure there will be plenty of Manchester United fans on Wednesday watching the all-Italian Champions League final between AC Milan and Juventus and moaning: " It should have been us." Sir Alex Ferguson will probably be thinking the same thing - and if he´s going to make up for this year´s Euro failure, Juan Sebastian Veron and Fabien Barthez are the two problem players he needs to deal with. The epic second leg quarter-final against Real Madrid in Manchester just about summed up the season for Veron and Barthez. The £28million Argentinian failed to dictate the pattern of play before he was replaced by Beckham, while the French goalkeeper flailed in vain as Ronaldo whacked three goals past him.

Fergie in option to extend his contract
Sir Alex Ferguson will spend the summer deciding whether to take up Manchester United´s offer to extend his Old Trafford reign towards its 20th year. The United manager has admitted for the first time that he has the option of extending his current contract when it runs out in 2006. He said: " I´ve still got another two years left on my current deal and there is an option available for me to stay longer." United and Ferguson will look to get a new deal in place quickly to avoid all the speculation that surrounded his initial plan to retire last summer.
Simon Mullock, Sunday Mirror

Wes will be back
Jinxed defender Wes Brown has received the backing of Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to beat his cruciate ligament injury hell for the second time in four years. The 23-year-old will undergo surgery this month on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Ferguson said: " Wes has shown the kind of strength that encourages you. He has proved it in the past."
Mark Ogden, Sunday Mirror

I can´t wait to join Fergie
Brazil superstar Ronaldinho last night opened the door on a £10million move to Manchester United, admitting: " The thought of working with Sir Alex Ferguson gives me goosebumps." The World Cup winner also strongly hinted an Old Trafford deal is close to being struck this summer, saying: " I would be able to learn so much from Sir Alex Ferguson. What it means to play great football and what it means to be a true professional." Paris St Germain boss Luis Fernandez has confirmed he met Fergie at the Enghien race-track north of Paris last week to discuss the deal.

United tried to offload Barthez to us
Sir Alex Ferguson has tried to dump misfit keeper Fabien Barthez to Marseille. After finally losing patience with his eccentric keeper, United boss Ferguson is desperate to get rid of the Frenchman following a series of high-profile calamaties and a dramatic loss of form this season. Manchester United approached Marseille - France´s biggest club - who scoffed at the mere mention of having to pay Barthez´s £2.5million-a-year wages. Marseille president Christophe Bouchet confirmed United had been in touch. He said: " There was an approach from United about Barthez. But we´re not going to pursue it. We have an excellent keeper at Marseille in Vedran Runje. The communication with United took place this month. It was a direct approach at a high level."

Fergie, Wenger in Roma battle
Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger are set to slug it out over Monaco´s £5million-rated keeper Flavio Roma. Sport of the World has learned that Fergie was in the Stade de France last weekend to watch Roma help Monaco beat Sochaux 4-1 in the French League Cup final. And on Tuesday, he sent United goalkeeping coach Tony Coton to watch Roma play against Guingamp in the French First Division. Arsenal, who had a £4m bid for Roma knocked back during the January transfer window, also had a representative at the Guingamp match. Roma said: " I am aware that both Manchester United and Arsenal are interested in me. I know they have been following me for several months, although so far I haven´t had any direct contact with either of them. To play for Arsenal or United would be a dream."

Ricardo* plea to Fergie
Ricardo Quaresma has issued a ´come and get me´ plea to Alex Ferguson. The Sporting Lisbon ace has been linked with Manchester United for months and looks certain to move when the Portuguese season ends in two weeks. The winger, 19, is a target for several Italian clubs, but United entered the chase on the recommendation of Fergie´s No 2 Carlos Queiroz - Sporting´s former coach.

Forlan worry for Fergie
Diego Forlan is set to worry Alex Ferguson by going to the SARS-hit Far East next month. Striker Forlan, 24, a member of Manchester United´s championship-winning squad this year, has been called up by Uruguay coach Juan Ramos Carrasco for a friendly in South Korea on June 8.

Becks isn´t good enough for Milan
England skipper David Beckham is not good enough to play for top Italian clubs. That´s the sensational verdict of AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini who claims Becks is better known for what he does off the pitch than what he does on it. Maldini, who will lead out his side at Old Trafford on Wednesday to face Juventus in the Champions League final, said: " He´s a good player, I like him very much and he´s excellent for English football. But probably he´s one of those players who would have great difficulty if he changed countries. If you look back, there have not been many English players who have had success here in Italy. That´s because our football is very tight and you get closed down immediately. There´s much less space."
Antony Kastrinakis, News of the World

Thuram feud gives Fergie hope
Juventus star Lilian Thuram has opened the door to a megabucks move to Manchester United after revealing a huge rift with boss Marcello Lippi. The French international has been a long-standing target of United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who almost signed him last season before opting to splash £30million on Rio Ferdinand. Now, three days before Juve´s Champions League final against Milan, Thuram has confessed he does not even speak to his manager. And he even admitted that United - who thrashed Juventus twice in the second group stage this season - are a better side than the Italian champions. He added: " Manchester are a club I love enormously! Make of that what you will. They are a club who have always been at the highest level with fantastic players and Sir Alex is a phenomenal manager."

Hair we go! I´ve had more styles than Becks
Hair today, gone tomorrow... or whatever David Beckham does, I can do better! That´s the motto of Tetley´s Super League hero Lesley Vainikolo, whose hair-raising exploits have helped Bradford Bulls win the Challenge Cup final and to the top of the table. Vainikolo, the man they call ´The Volcano´, is a winger - just like Beckham. But no-one has ever seen the Manchester United ace wear his club colours in his hair in a cup final. Not so Lesley, who proudly sported the red, white, black and yellow of Bradford for the 22-20 cup win over Leeds at the Millennium Stadium. Vainokolo, former junior sprint champion of New Zealand, said: " I´ve been at this for years now - I had my hair styled for fun way before Beckham. Over the years it´s been razored, dyed all sorts of colours, long or short, plaited or braided."
