Top of Europe
Milan were crowned European champions for the sixth time. In England, where Cesare Maldini lifted the first trophy won by the Rossonero club, Paolo and Co played a really exciting match against Juventus and defeated them on penalties. Andriy Shevchenko converted the decisive one to give an immense joy to the Rossonero supporters who had a hard trip to the Old Trafford. THANK YOU, LADS!!!!!!

Manchester United are so desperate to land Brazilian Ronaldinho they have offered Diego Forlan in part-exchange ( Daily Star).

" Becks looks back"
David Beckham has been talking to MU.tv about Real Madrid but don´t panic - the United midfielder was merely reviewing one of the most memorable games in Champions League history.
Sidestepping all the speculation about him moving to Madrid, Becks said of the classic quarter-final: " To play in games like that is pretty amazing. And for the fans and the neutrals watching to witness the skills that were in the game is something special."
The superb second leg at the newly dubbed Theatre of Football saw United regain plenty of pride, following their heavy defeat in the away leg.
" I think we had to after losing out there the way we did, especially in the first half," said David. " But many teams would have found it hard to stop that sort of football and those sorts of players.
" We played a lot better in the second game and we won the game, so we have to take that from it. I came on with twenty minutes to go and I think we had a couple of good chances before I even scored the second goal. Ole ( Solskjaer) had one chance and there were a couple of others. On another day, if they´d have gone in, it would have been different. But it wasn´t meant to be."
Many pundits felt the winners of the epic tie between United and Real would go on to lift the European Cup at Old Trafford. But last night that prediction was proved wrong when AC Milan, another of the clubs being linked with Beckham, beat Juventus on penalties.
The all-Italian final was a grand occasion, but as a football match, it failed to live up to the previous Champions League fixture played at Old Trafford... United´s epic 4-3 win over Real Madrid.
Blanc bows out in style
Laurent Blanc bowed out in style this season, according to sone new Premiership statistics .
The retiring Frenchman boasted a higher success rate in passing ( 84%) and dribbling ( 100%) than any of his fellow Manchester United defenders, including £30 million new-boy Rio Ferdinand. However Rio still has plenty to be proud of following his first season at the club.
Rio won the highest percentage of tackles ( 86%) and made the highest number of clearances ( 277) for United in their Premiership-winning campaign. And like Blanc, Ferdinand was also very comfortable on the ball, successfully completing the vast majority of his passes ( 82%) and dribbles out of defence ( 94%). Further forward, he contributed only one cross - but at least it was an accurate one!
Meanwhile Mikael Silvestre proved to be United´s best defender from an attacking point of view. He set up seven of United´s 74 Premiership goals and became the only Reds defender to score in the Premiership this season when he netted the winner against Leeds in March.
However, Mikael may feel his crossing could improve. Only one in five of the Frenchman´s crosses were accurate ( 21%), compared to almost one in three by his rival for the left-back berth John O´Shea ( 31%) and one in four by Gary Neville ( 27%) on the opposite flank.
No doubt Ferdinand, Silvestre and co will wait with interest this summer as Fergie shops for a new defender, to compensate for the injury to Wes Brown and the retirement of Laurent Blanc, United´s pass-master and dribbler extraordinaire!
Ruud van Nistelrooy is said to be tempting Patrick Kluivert to join him at Manchester United.
The Reds Dutchman has long said that his countryman would be his ideal strike partner at Old Trafford, and he is working hard behind the scenes to make sure it happens.
" If it had been down to Ruud, I would have signed for United a long time ago," said the Barcelona front-man.
" I have had various calls from Ruud, at least three. We´ve also chatted when we´ve been together with the Holland team. The first time he called was after Christmas. I don´t know whether he´s joking or not but he´s told me lots of times that, sooner or later, I´ll end up playing for United.
" He makes a point of telling me how good the atmosphere there is and that the fans are closer to the players than in Italy or in Spain. He´s really happy to be playing in England."
The former Ajax and AC Milan star has just one year left on his Nou Camp contract, and has hinted that he may quit La Liga after a disappointing season with Barca. And England is his preferred destination.
" He´s told me the way I play is ideally suited to English football and although I´m happy in Spain, things haven´t gone at all well this season," he said.
" I already know Dutch, Italian and Spanish football and the English version is one of the few varieties I don´t. At some stage I think I will play for a big Premiership club."
Keep it up, Ruud !
Fergie´s sitting targets
It was supposed to be the greatest night of Alex Ferguson´s career. Instead it turned into one of the most frustrating. When Old Trafford was revealed as the venue for the 2003 European Cup final, Fergie made no secret of what it would mean to see Manchester United walk out of the tunnel. Instead, the United manager has been restricted to the role of hand-wringing, teeth-grinding spectator as Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus gatecrashed the party. An eighth Premiership title may be in the bag - and one which will go down with fans and officials alike as their greatest ever after the way they pegged back Arsenal. But Euro success remains the Holy Grail, with their 1999 triumph over Bayern Munich in the Nou Camp merely whetting the appetite for more glory nights.
Patrick Kluivert ( Barcelona)
Price: As little as £1.5m.
Availability: Under contract until 2006.
Likelihood: High - if Fergie listens to Ruud.
Ruud van Nistelrooy could be Fergie´s trump card here, as his red-hot striker has been a constant caller to fellow Dutchman Kluivert. Kluivert, 26, has been linked with United almost constantly for years - the only difference this time is there is every chance it will be followed up with a definite move.
Brad Friedel ( Blackburn Rovers)
Price: £8m.
Availability: Money talks and the right price would seal the deal.
Likelihood: High.
The American keeper, 32, followed an outstanding World Cup by stamping his class as the most consistent No1 in the Premiership. Amazingly shown the door by Gerard Houllier when he took over at Liverpool.
Cafu ( Roma)
Price: Free.
Availability: Out of contract.
Likelihood: Possible shock arrival to Old Trafford.
Ferguson wanted to bring in the veteran Brazilian to add a touch of know-how to his backline last summer, but was put off when Roma started mentioning a fee.
Julien Escude ( Rennes)
Price: £3m.
Availability: Under contract until 2005.
Likelihood: Slim chance.
Classy defender would almost certainly be at Old Trafford already had it not been for a freak accident last summer, when he damaged a knee slipping off the pavement as he walked his dog.
Ricardo Quaresma ( Sporting Lisbon)
Price: £10m.
Availability: Under contract until 2004.
Likelihood: Between him and Ronaldinho.
Portuguese wide-boy is arguably THE best young talent in Europe right now, as England Under-21s found out when he destroyed them in a Euro qualifier. The 19-year-old´s agent Jorge Mendez already claims United have spoken of a four-year contract.
David Bellion ( Sunderland)
Price: Free - after compensation tribunal.
Availability: Out of contract next month.
Likelihood: As good as done.
United will sign him for just a compensation fee as the 22-year-old French winger is out of contract at Sunderland at the end of next month.

Mak deal wrecked by Becks
Manchester United have abondoned plans to sign Real Madrid midfield man Claude Makelele...because they are scared of losing David Beckham. Alex Ferguson wanted to bring Makelele to Old Trafford as a potential long-term successor to skipper Roy Keane. French international Makelele was outstanding when Real beat United in last month´s Champions League quarter finals. But boss Fergie has been told negotiations with Real would put the possibility of Beckham´s move to Spain back on the agenda.

Ruud´s got me rockin´
Ruud van Nistelrooy has gone on a one-man crusade to tempt Patrick Kluivert to Old Trafford. Van Nistelrooy´s Dutch international strike partner is facing an uncertain future - and a wage cut - at Barcelona. And Kluivert revealed: " If it had been down to Ruud, I would have signed for United a long time ago." The Barca striker said close pal Van Nistelrooy - who scored 44 goals this season for Manchester United - is continually phoning to tell him he would be better off at Old Trafford. Kluivert, whose contract expires in 2006, admitted: " I have had various calls from Ruud, at least three.

Fergie´s buy from Brazil
Sir Alex Ferguson has made a shock move to sign Brazilian World Cup winner Kleberson - and steal him from under the noses of Newcastle. The Manchester United manager has been given £30million to strengthen his squad this summer and has made an offer in excess of £5m just days before he bids £7m for Leeds United star Harry Kewell. The Kleberson deal has been agreed by Atletico Paranaense and his agent Marcel Figer says he has held talks with United officials about terms for the player. The agreement comes four months after a move to Newcastle fell through, although manager Sir Bobby Robson is still interested in the 23-year-old defensive midfielder. Brazilian club Atletico Paranaense are now anxious to sell as Kleberson´s contract expires next February and he is refusing to sign a new deal.

Master Shev sinks Juve - Juventus 0 AC Milan 0 ( Milan win 3-2 on pens)
Andrei Shevchenko put his Milan misery behind him with the ice-cool spot-kick that won the European Cup at Old Trafford. Hitman Shevchenko - dubbed The Tsar at AC - stroked in the winning penalty in a sudden-death shootout to win this all-Italian Champions League final. There could have been no more fitting hero than the man from Ukraine who has suffered a nightmare since his £16million signing from Dynamo Kiev.

Eurovision pong contest
Andriy Shevchenko won the Champions League for Milan last night after a dramatic Old Trafford finish. The Ukrainian striker was the only man to find the back of the net in two hours of football although his first-half effort was rightly ruled out for offside against team-mate Manuel Rui Costa. But as the nerves of both teams were shredded in a penalty shoot-out - which saw five of the 10 attempts on goal missed, it was Shevchenko whose courage held.

Becks in TV plea to fans
David Beckham is to make a dramatic nationwide TV appearance, warning England fans to behave - or else. England could be thrown out of Euro 2004 if there is a repeat of the pitch invasions at last month´s win over Turkey. UEFA made it clear England were in the last-chance saloon after the FA were fined £68,000 over incidents during that qualifying game in Sunderland. Skipper Becks will appear on BBC, ITV and SKY before next Tuesday´s friendly against Serbia and Montenegro.
