Gill in unison with Fergie
Manchester United chief executive David Gill is confident Sir Alex Ferguson has accepted that the transfer well is dry this summer.
Ferguson is keen to strengthen his squad at the end of the season but may find himself in the unusual position of searching for Bosman bargains.
The Red Devils´ transfer kitty for next term has already been spent on the purchase of Wayne Rooney and Ferguson must sell before he can buy in the summer.
There is room for manoeuvre with the likes of David Bellion and Kleberson expected to be up for grabs but that is unlikely to significantly swell the coffers.
Gill concedes that, if United want to continually challenge for honours, then there must be some investment in the team.
But he also warned that there is a need to be prudent after confirming Ferguson is in agreement that there is a limit to the club´s spending power.
" As manager, Alex will want more and more," said Gill.
" And at some point you have to say no.
" Alex will respect that and he doesn´t sulk. I´ve learned that from him.
" Having said that, it´s stupid to say there´s no correlation between investment and success.
" There´s a strong coefficient. But it isn´t that simple. Chelsea last year won nothing. This year they are doing well.
" But without money in the sport today, as sure as eggs is eggs, you´re not going to be up there challenging."
Potless
Sir Alex Ferguson has been forced to accept that he must strengthen his Manchester United side this summer with virtually no money to spend. The United boss has been told he must sell before he can buy after blowing all of this summer´s transfer budget on the £30million capture of Wayne Rooney. Old Trafford chief executive David Gill revealed that Fergie has reluctantly conceded he must generate his own transfer kitty through the sale of existing United players. " As manager, Alex will want more and more," said Gill. " And at some point you have to say no. Alex will respect that and he doesn´t sulk. We are very pleased with the compsition of the squad, so any funds for new acquisitions will be paid for by disposals."

It´s a Ruudy nightmare
Ruud van Nistelrooy admits it is about time he got back on the goal trail for Manchester United. Since returning from his latest injury, the Dutch striker has gone seven games without netting for the Red Devils — his longest drought since moving to Old Trafford in 2001. But an important strike for Holland in last week’s World Cup qualifier against Armenia has given Van Nistelrooy the belief that he will wake soon from his nightmare. The 28-year-old said: “It was good to get the goal for Holland but, for me, it is time to get back on track for my club. That’s what I intend to do. I have been in this situation before. It is important for me to know my strengths, play to them and keep calm.”

I´d say ´No´ to Fergie - Stew
Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing insists he wants to stay at the Riverside - even if he is offered a move to Manchester United. The young Teessider has enjoyed a fine season, cementing his place in the Boro first team and breaking into Sven Goran Eriksson´s senior England side. But the 20-year-old is not getting over-excited. Asked whether he would be tempted if Sir Alex Ferguson came calling in a fans´ question-and-answer session on the club´s official website, he said: " No, not really. I would like to stay at the club. If they ever wanted to sell me I would have to go - but I´d stay forever."

Robbo wants winger stay
Bryan Robson wants to keep Manchester United winger Kieran Richardson on loan at West Brom for another season.
Richardson moved to The Hawthorns during the January transfer window and is staying with the Premiership strugglers until the end of the campaign.
The 20-year-old has been revelling in the chance to play regular football and has made seven appearances for The Baggies.
West Brom boss Robson has been impressed with the youngster´s contribution, with Richardson also having operated in a central midfield role.
Robson was previously coy on the prospect of landing Richardson on a permanent basis from The Red Devils, for whom the player has only been a fringe figure.
But while Richardson is keen to make an impact at Old Trafford upon his return to the club, Robson is eager to retain the player´s services for another 12 months.
" I think Kieran has got his own ambitions and he wants to be a Manchester United player," said Robson.
" I was a Manchester United player myself so I know where the kid is coming from when he says that.
" But he is doing a terrific job for us and if I can extend his spell at Albion, with the approval of Sir Alex [Ferguson] and Kieran for next season, then I would jump at the chance.
" He is still a young lad. He is still learning his trade and, if we have good success this season, then if the loan can be extended for another year it would be great, but it is all down to the player and Sir Alex."
Up the road at Old Trafford, Sir Alex Ferguson insists his side can win the Premiership next season even if Chelsea make further big-name signings this summer. ( Various)

United watch winger
Manchester United are on the trail of Lyon winger Florent Malouda, in addition to his team-mate Michael Essien.
Ghanaian midfielder Essien is a long-term target for The Red Devils, with the Premiership giants tipped to launch a bid in the summer.
But they could make it a double raid on the French champions with reports suggesting Malouda is a target for United.
Sir Alex Ferguson´s brother Martin watched Lyon´s UEFA Champions League quarter final with PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday and was believed to have been impressed by Malouda.
The 24-year-old scored Lyon´s goal in the 1-1 draw and looked a threat on the left flank for Paul Le Guen´s side.
He has made giant strides since moving to Stade Gerland from Guingamp in 2003 and broke into the French national team this season.
With Ryan Giggs´ contract situation still unresolved, United could be assessing Malouda as a possible long-term replacement for the Welshman at Old Trafford.
Speculation claims United are prepared to offer £5 million for the wide man if he continues to impress between now and the end of the season.
Giggs set to miss Cup semi-final
Sir Alex Ferguson has virtually ruled out any chance of Ryan Giggs being fit for Manchester United´s FA Cup semi-final with Newcastle on 17 April.
Giggs limped out of last week´s draw with Blackburn with a hamstring injury.
And Ferguson told MUTV: " Ryan is very doubtful for the semi-final. I don´t think he will make it.
" Obviously you want a player of his experience for all the big games so it is a blow. We´ll see what he looks like next week but it doesn´t look good."
