Fergie accuses Henry of throwing punch
Sir Alex Ferguson last night accused Thierry Henry of throwing a punch at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the bitter row between Arsenal and Manchester United intensified. Fergie launched a fierce defence of Solskjaer after Gunners boss Arsene Wenger accused the Norwegian of feigning injury in the elbow incident which saw Sol Campbell sent off in Wednesday´s 2-2 draw at Highbury. United boss Fergie also claimed Arsenal´s players tried to burst into referee Mark Halsey´s room in an attempt to make the official change his mind over Campbell´s red card. Arsenal hit back by accusing Solskjaer of cowardice in refusing to come to Campbell´s defence. But it was Fergie who set the sparks flying when he said: " I´m really angry Arsenal are trying to make a player like Solskjaer the villain of the piece. Instead of blaming my players, Wenger should take a look at his own. The reaction of the Arsenal players was ridiculous. Instead of looking at their own player, who could have cost them the game, they go and attack our player. Solskjaer could have ended up with a broken nose and broken jaw quite easily. He had a bloodied nose, then Thierry Henry tried to throw a punch at him in the next challenge.

Win us the title!
Steve McClaren was expecting the call from Sir Alex Ferguson, and he knew there would be an extra special request in the conversation. As the managerial double act at Manchester United, Ferguson and McClaren plotted the 1999 Treble winning campaign - and many victories over Arsenal. With Arsene Wenger´s title-chasers at The Riverside today, McClaren´s Middlesbrough could be about to pull off one more coup for his old boss. The phone call after United drew 2-2 with Arsenal was the perfect chance for Ferguson to ask of McClaren a big favour: " Help us win the title." Fergie told him he always knew it would come down to this game, that it would be in Boro´s hands to determine the championship - and redress the balance after wrecking United´s challenge last season. The bond forged during their success together, and the trust Ferguson showed in his talented young coach, had not been forgotten when they spoke.

Now Edu is out of the run-in
Arsenal´s injury gloom deepened last night when Brazilian midfielder Edu was ruled out for the rest of the season. Edu had been poised to replace knee- injury victim Patrick Vieira against Middlesbrough today but damaged a knee cartilage in training. Manager Arsene Wenger is also without goalkeeper David Seaman and striker Francis Jeffers at the Riverside and there are doubts over Sol Campbell, who has flu. Although Ray Parlour is fit again after a hamstring problem the news about Edu was a blow for Wenger, who said: " I don´t think Edu will play again this season."

Leaving Becks on the bench is torture
Sir Alex Ferguson last night revealed his turmoil at having to leave David Beckham on the bench as Manchester United stormed to the top of the Premiership. The England skipper has been forced to watch from the sidelines during United´s last two games, the 6-2 victory over Newcastle United and the dramatic 2-2 draw with title rivals Arsenal at Highbury in midweek. Although Beckham could return for United against Blackburn at Old Trafford today, Fergie admitted the form of his replacement Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it impossible for him to change the line-up. And the United boss finally dismissed rumours linking Beckham with a £38million switch to Real Madrid in the summer, despite the midfielder´s recent omission which served only to intensify the speculation. " It´s not easy for me to leave David Beckham out of the team," said Fergie.

Souness pays no mind
Graeme Souness claims Sir Alex Ferguson´s mind games are exactly that - all in the mind. Blackburn travel to Old Trafford today with boss Souness arguing that the only reason Fergie plays the psychology card is to motivate himself. " I think the old bugger needs to wind himself up," said fellow Scot Souness. " He has done very well at it down the years. But maybe it makes Fergie feel better. I think he is up for it and the United players are too. After what happened at Highbury in midweek the title momentum is with Manchester United and Arsenal will feel they have lost it already. They will be saying ´we have blown it´. But I´m not big on mind games. I think it´s the biggest load of c**p. Players laugh at it. The only people it stirs up are the supporters. What makes you a big player is the ability to handle all of that c**p. Big players do not need winding up. Managers saying things about you does not mean anything. It was like that in my day and I know it is the same now. It means nothing."

Red rage
Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger are at each other´s throats in a blazing row over Sol Campbell´s elbow red card. And Manchester United boss Fergie has also accused Arsenal striker Thierry Henry of aiming a punch at Ole Solskjaer moments after he was poleaxed by Campbell. The Gunners insist Campbell did not catch Solskjaer deliberately and Gunners chief Wenger wants the Norwegian striker to come forward and back up their case. But arch rival Ferguson snapped back: " I am really angry about this. I am angry that a player like Ole Solskjaer is being made out to be the villain.

Ta for duffing them up
Dwight Yorke received a phone call of thanks from Alex Ferguson after he helped put Arsenal to the sword last month. The former Manchester United striker had given his old boss a glimmer of hope in the title race as Blackburn beat the Gunners 2-0. But what Yorke gave with one hand he is ready to take away with the other at Old Trafford this afternoon, as sentimentality is put to one side. Yorke could line up alongside Andy Cole for Blackburn as United´s Treble-winning strike-force take on their former club. And the former Aston Villa star knows just what one swing of his boot could do to tilt the whole Championship pendulum.

Zombie Dudek
Jerzy Dudek has revealed how his howler against Manchester United left him like a zombie. The Liverpool keeper dropped a simple catch to allow Diego Forlan to score in United´s 2-1 win at Anfield earlier this season. And Polish international Dudek recalled: " I had friends over from Holland and we had booked to go out to a restaurant after the match. " After what happened, I told my wife I was not going. I just wanted to lock the door, close all the curtains and hide myself away for a few days. In the end I did go out. I could not avoid people in the restaurant but they all told me to keep my head up. It was not easy and quite emotional but it told me a lot about the people of Liverpool. I was walking around like a zombie but manager Gerard Houllier telephoned me to say I was playing in the next game against Ipswich in the Worthington Cup.
Mike Ellis, The Sun
" Mais Manchester United est incontestablement sur la pente ascendante, alors qu´Arsenal a de plus en plus de mal à marquer et à gagner ( 5 points pris en 4 rencontres). Les Mancuniens sont eux invaincus depuis 14 matches ( 11 victoires et 3 nuls). "
