Djemba Djemba will cost £3m
Cameroon international Eric Djemba Djemba is expected to sign for Manchester United on Thursday.
The Cameroon midfielder has already agreed personal terms with United, after the Premiership champions agreed a with French First Division club Nantes.

" Eric Djemba Djemba will play for Manchester United next season," said a Nantes statement.

" The English champions, Nantes and the player have agreed on a five year transfer for an amount of £3m."

Djemba will have his medical on Thursday and then sign but instead of being officially unveiled as an Old Trafford player, he will immediately fly to Cameroon for the funeral of international team-mate Marc-Vivien Foe.

Foe died after collapsing on the pitch during a Confederations Cup tie last Thursday.

Djemba Djemba was also part of Cameroon´s midfield during the Confederations Cup and featured in the Indomitable Lions´ 2002 World Cup squad.

He is said to be seen by Sir Alex Ferguson as a long-term replacement for Roy Keane and admitted the Irish midfielder is one of his footballing heroes.

" If you tell me I am going to play with Keane I would be very happy," Djemba Djemba told the club´s official website.

" He´s a strong character and it would really make me happy to play alongside him.

" He plays hard. He is a role model for me along with Claude Makelele and Patrick Vieira."

Djemba would be Man Utd´s second signing this week, after Ferguson wrapped up the capture of French winger David Bellion from Sunderland, for a fee to be agreed by tribunal.

Manchester United must raise their offer for Ronaldinho or risk seeing him join David Beckham at Real Madrid. Paris St Germain president Francis Graille revealed yesterday he had rejected a United bid. But he denied it was in the region of the alleged £14million. Graille said after meeting United chief executive Peter Kenyon: “They have confirmed their interest in Ronaldinho and made an offer. We turned it down. If they want him, they must do better.” Graille said he remained in talks with Real over the Brazilian international.

Manchester United were last night told to increase their offer for Ronaldinho after their £11million bid for the Brazilian World Cup star was rejected. Angry Paris St Germain president Francis Graille warned Sir Alex Ferguson he is not going to get the flamboyant playmaker on the cheap. Graille met with United officials in Paris yesterday afternoon before rejecting the offer from the Premiership champions. Ronaldinho´s agent and brother Roberto Assis later admitted: " We are very calm, talks are ongoing. The player is not on the streets and he has proved his worth on the pitch so we will wait and see what happens. I am certain Manchester United will make another bid. It is important that we let the clubs find a possible solution." United have been tracking Ronaldinho for months and Graille claimed earlier in the week United would have to break the British transfer record and pay £31m if they wanted to seal the deal.

Milan block £35m Nesta bid

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani claims the club have turned down a bid of about £35m from an English club for defender Alessandro Nesta.
The European champions revealed the bid at a news conference, but would not reveal which club had made the approach.

" I refused an offer of 50m euro for Alessandro Nesta," Galliani said.

" The offer came from an English club," he confirmed.

Manchester United, following the sale of David Beckham to Real Madrid, are the only English club likely to be capable of a £35m offer.

Newcastle and Liverpool are the only other clubs actively competitive in the transfer market, while Roman Abramovich´s £140m takeover of Chelsea could have prompted an approach from Claudio Ranieri.

Italy international Nesta is regarded as one of the best central defenders in the world and Galliani insisted Milan had no intention of selling.

" There is no question of any of the first-choice 16 or 17 players being sold," he said.

Nesta joined Milan from Lazio before the start of last season for about £18m.
