FA reject Ronaldo appeal
Cristiano Ronaldo has seen his appeal for wrongful dismissal following the red card picked up in Manchester United´s derby defeat at Manchester City rejected by The Football Association.
The Portuguese will now serve a three-match ban and will miss United´s matches against Burton Albion (FA Cup), Liverpool (Premiership) and Blackburn (Carling Cup).
Ronaldo received his marching orders from referee Steve Bennett in controversial circumstances at The City of Manchester Stadium.
Having appeared to have been fouled by Stephen Jordan, Ronaldo´s ire was stoked by Bennett´s failure to award a free kick in the United man´s favour.
Ronaldo then retaliated and launched into a tackle on Andy Cole and, although no contact was made with the former United striker, Bennett deemed the tackle to have been reckless and produced a straight red card.
United appealed but their plea has fallen on deaf ears and Ronaldo will be now sidelined at a critical point in the season.
