High Fergie praise for Rio
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was full of praise for Rio Ferdinand after watching the England international excel in midfield against Wolves.
With United comfortable on their trip to the Midlands, Ferdinand formed a makeshift central midfield pairing with Wayne Rooney for much of the 3-0 success.
Ferdinand looked more than comfortable in a midfield holding role rather than his normal position in central defence and Ferguson admits he is now considering using the talented duo together again on Wednesday against Blackburn.
"It is possible I could play them in there on Wednesday because they both did very well," said Ferguson.
"I was forced into the move really because my best selection options were all at the back.
"Darren Fletcher has played a lot of games and needed a break, while Alan Smith has been missing training with an ankle problem and I felt it was a big ask to throw him into a full-blooded FA Cup tie."
Ferguson also continued to confirm that Cristiano Ronaldo will likely be fit for midweek Wednesday action but the form of Kieran Richardson may keep his Portuguese team-mate on the bench.
Richardson grabbed a brace, infront of England manager Sven Goran Eriksson, with Ferguson equally praising in his assessment of the young midfielder´s contribution of late.
"Kieran has been doing terrifically well for us," said Ferguson. "In fact, in the last two games he has probably been one of our best players.
"He is only 21 and he is improving all the time."
Fifa to investigate Mikel threats
Fifa is to investigate claims that Manchester United and Chelsea target John Obi Mikel has received death threats, reports BBC Radio Five Live.
The Nigeria international, 18, signed for United in April 2005 but later said he had been forced into doing so.
Mikel appeared to temporarily go missing during the dispute and has since claimed he wants to join Chelsea. There is no suggestion that the death threats came from Chelsea, who are still keen to sign the teenager.
"Inside me I know where I want to go and I think Chelsea is the better place for me to be," Mikel told BBC Radio Five Live in an interview to be broadcast in full later on Monday.
United insist they have rights to the player, who is at the African Cup of Nations with Nigeria, and have counter-claimed that he has been forced into saying he wants to join Chelsea.
Fifa is now expected to decide what happens to Mikel, while it has also been suggested United and Lyn could push for punishments, including a transfer ban, to be imposed on Chelsea.

FIFA ´probes Mikel threats´
FIFA are to investigate claims that Manchester United and Chelsea target John Obi Mikel has received death threats, according to a BBC Radio Five Live report.
The Nigeria international is at the centre of a contract dispute between the two Premiership clubs, with United claiming to have signed the player and Chelsea insisting he wants to join them.
United announced the signing of Mikel, 18, who is currently playing in the African Nations Cup, from Norwegian club Lyn Oslo last April but the player later said he had been forced into the agreement.
It was alleged that he had received death threats after United announced the deal and the player appeared to go missing. He has since claimed he only wishes to join Chelsea and there have been claims that his contract with Lyn, which allowed United to sign him, was forged.
United insist they have rights to the player and have counter-claimed that he has been forced into saying he wants to join Chelsea.
According to the report, FIFA will now decide what happens to Mikel. It also suggests United and Lyn could push for a transfer ban to be imposed on Chelsea
Van der Sar praise for Vidic
Edwin van der Sar has claimed that new signing Nemanja Vidic can settle Manchester United´s defensive concerns once and for all.
The Serbian joined The Red Devils over Christmas for £7 million, but had to wait until Sunday´s FA Cup tie against Wolves to make his first start for the club.
The 24-year-old showed no signs of nerves as he put in an accomplished display, leaving his goalkeeper suitably impressed.
"Nemanja is an old fashioned defender who makes a lot of challenges," said van der Sar.
"Everyone was pleased with his performance at Wolves and it is good to have another member of the squad.
"I think the manager looked to see what we already had and what we needed to add."
Vidic had been a little short on fitness when he arrived at Old Trafford from Spartak Moscow, due to the fact that the Russian season was already over, but his determination to get back into peak condition quickly has pleased his team-mates.
"He has been here a month now and has had to catch up on a little bit of fitness because he had been on a break," van der Sar explained.
"But he has done a lot of training separately. We have seen him running quite often after we have finished our sessions but it was important for him to get a full 90 minutes in."

United in fresh failure
Manchester United appear to have failed with a bid to land Paraguayan midfielder Carlos Paredes.
Skysports.com has learnt that United made an offer to Reggina to take their prized asset on loan for the rest of the season.
However, the Italians were looking for a big fee - despite the fact he is out of contract in the summer - and United only offered around €300,000 (£200,000).
"At that amount Reggina would not even consider letting him leave," Marco Trabucchi, who was working on the deal on behalf of the Italian club, confirmed to skysports.com.
The 28-year-old, who has been with Reggina since moving from Porto in 2002, is a defensive midfielder in the guise that Sir Alex Ferguson is looking for - but it seems unlikely that United will make a renewed bid for the South American.
The failure to get Paredes was United´s second failed attempt to land a player from Serie A - after Milan confirmed last week that they shunned an offer to take Swiss star Johann Vogel.
"It is true that Manchester United showed an interest, but no offer was made because we said from the beginning that we wanted to keep the player," reiterated Milan´s sporting director Ariedo Braida.
Cooper shown door at Old Trafford
Manchester United have released young American striker Kenny Cooper.
The 21-year-old arrived at Old Trafford in 2003 from Dallas Mustangs and has featured regularly for the United reserve side.
However, he was unable to force his way into the first team, although he did have a spell on loan at Oldham.
He becomes the third player to leave United in January following the departures of midfielder David Fox and Finnish forward Jami Puustinen.
Man Utd (from): Van der Sar, Howard, Neville, Bardsley, Ferdinand, Brown, Silvestre, Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo, Park, Fletcher, Richardson, Rooney, Van Nistelrooy, Saha, Rossi, Solskjaer.
With Alan Smith (suspended), Ryan Giggs (hamstring) and John O´Shea (ribs) all out, Rio Ferdinand could again be pressed into midfield duty for United.
Cristiano Ronaldo (knee) should be available while Patrice Evra is pushing for a recall at left-back.
