J'ai trouvé la meilleure théorie que j'ai jamais lue concernant le Trauma Fight retiré de MOTHER 3 ...
This theory denies any presence of Giygas whatsoever in the unused boss battle and takes on the belief that the entire sequence occurs because of Lucas' trauma, and thereby potentially canon and removed only because the battle was too disturbing.
First of all, the REAL final boss of Mother 3 has been defeated, now put yourself in Lucas' shoes. Your mother was slaughtered by your dinosaur friend (at the beginning of the game), in response to which your brother Claus runs off to avenge her, and HE ends up getting killed in the pursuit. Eventually, he is coerced by Porky and somehow brought back to life as "The Masked Man", leader of the Pig Masks, and you've just fought him. (The following is a recap of the REAL final battle, not the cut battle.) Your mother's spirit from beyond the grave hovered over the battle scene and whispered to your brother "Claus...Claus...come to where mother is. You're tired, I'm sure. Claus, come." Claus drops the mask, and suddenly the entire room is filled with a ghastly white light, causing Claus to look like the ghost from beyond the grave that he truly is. His hand is reaching out to you- through all of that brain washing, some remnants of your brother remain... and suddenly, he kills himself. He intentionally uses a powerful lightning attack that bounces off of the Franklin Badge and right back into him, ending his life. Right when Claus was gesturing to his brother becknoningly, the ability to make amends was cut off. A very important line appears at the end of the battle, perhaps the greatest evidence making the "cut" battle canon. "Claus hugs Lucas. Lucas remembered Claus' scent." A lingering, haunting reminder of his brother stays with Lucas.
But before we get to the next step, where the CUT battle could be inserted, I'd like to mention the music of this battle. Though not utterly horrifying like the cut battle, the real final battle was unsettling with some very touching moments, and the music was mostly responsible for that. In the final stage of the real boss battle, the "Love Theme" (present in SSBB, but the latter part that's all slow and dramatic) begins playing in a hollow, non-human manner, like a gentle, foreshadowing, haunting whisper. Very gradually, an emotional instrument introduces humanity into the song. As Hinawa (your mother) calls out to Claus, a POWERFUL organ variant of the Love Theme pounds at the scene, making it almost holy and transcendent, and Claus removes the mask. As the final "music box" part of the Love Theme is implemented (Pretty much the same thing from the slow part of the one in SSBB), that's when Claus reaches out his hand lovingly towards Lucas and kills himself. It's funny, actually, because after having heard the original Love Theme from the GBA game, it sounds like Brawl, with all of it's advaced technology for music, screwed up the brilliance of the original track. But I wouldn't want to burst into tears while playing Brawl, now that I think about it.
Alright, so now you can see why Lucas was thoroughly traumatized, and the scent of his brother is with him again. Scent has been psychologically proven as the most powerful instigator of memories. So let's say Lucas begins having a mental breakdown, accompanied by this "memory trigger". Don't forget that Lucas IS psychic, meaning that if his mind ATTACKS him, it's probably going to be far worse and real than anything a regular human could experience, and I think the creators got this across brilliantly.
The removed battle can only be accessed in pieces with a hacking device. I'm not sure if the video presents it in the correct order, or if anyone could ever figure out what the proper order is. But I'll assume that it is in the proper order.
One thing the Youtube video presented was a random sound clip that was found with the data. It sounds like a collapsing, hoarse "groar", like a large, ominous breathing noise. The maker of the video, having gone with the Giygas theory, suggested it was Giygas. But I've also heard that it's the Dragon that is all-powerful and can grant wishes (And actually is the reason the game ended), and since you're directly on the territory where he can be summoned, it makes sense (Ever seen Lucas remove a "sword" from the ground after winning a Brawl on the Battle Results screen? That's actually one of eight needles in the Dragon's back which keeps the Dragon asleep). But it could also be a scary abstraction of a breathing noise in general, or an organic sound like a heartbeat. There's a lot it could be, but I don't consider it all-consuming important because it wasn't applied to anything and therefore can't prove or disprove anything. Someone even conjectured it was an alternate soundclip for the Ultimate Chimera, so there you go.
Also, during the entire battle sequence, you're supposed to be able to hear "Luuuu-cas... Luuuu-cas" in the background music. EVERYONE says they can hear it, including my friend who could actually watch the entire thing. I don't know because I haven't managed to just sit down and watch it through, especially not with audio. I skip around until I get too scared and have to close the window. Anyway, "Luuuu-cas... Luuuu-cas..." is obviously Claus calling out to Lucas, but probably because Lucas subconciously has created the noise. I doubt that Claus is actually there, haunting Lucas. He would never want to do that, I think. It's all Lucas thinking horrible things during his breakdown, which I can actually support with evidence. But I'll get to that later.
The battle begins with a white spectre with red eyes which gradually changes in color in shape. It eventually becomes taller, yellow, more solid, and with hollow eyes and mouth. The white with red eyes is the main reason why people thought it was Giygas, but I don't believe this to be true. I think the spectre represents Claus as the most basic substance of life. Transparent white is interpreted as a soul's color, especially in this game as shown by the REAL final battle when Hinawa calls out to Claus, and I like to think of the red eyes like this- Not only has Lucas just combated Claus as an evil being (until the end) and is imagining Claus haunting him as a horrific ghost, but it also ties in to the "basest substance of life" theory. Think of an albino individual- their eyes are red because no pigment has been developed within their eyes. So Claus doesn't have his biological pigment yet, either. Or anymore, depending on whether you want to think of the spectre as a visualization of Claus before birth or after death. I'm leaning towards the latter, the more that I think about it.
The next sequence is Claus as a golden angel. It contrasts sharply to the yellow spectre with hollow eyes you've just seen, because it's so small, being the actual height of Claus. This is really interesting, because it goes from this golden angel to much more terrible images. It reminds me of a mental tug-of-war. Perhaps Lucas is either winning/losing against the terror of his mind at various stages or he is subconciously changing his mind at various stages. Ever seen Howl's Moving Castle? Howl and Sophie change shape based on their emotions and dutifulness in a way that we can almost see into their mind. I think the image Lucas is seeing of Claus is the same way.
Next, several regular-looking naked Claus in water drop-like ovals are wavering on and off the screen. This reminds me a lot of "development" for some reason, as though he were contained in something like an ovum and being processed. If you think about it, he did go through some sort of process in being revived by Porky. The regular-looking Claus eventually become white-spectre naked Claus with red eyes, imitating the appearance they had from the first stage of the battle. However, it looks much more solid and scary because it's visibly Claus rather than a random spectre. It's... rather unsettling to look at.
Next is a gigantic, jagged red "X" that is writhing. Honestly, I'd have nothing to say about it but I read a really good theory. Porky cut Claus open, and many of his other cohorts, in order to install devices that would help him control these individuals. So when we were seeing naked Claus in water drops, his "life essence" was being dealt with and he was "being reborn", and here he is being modified for the good of Porky.
There's one scene that I forget if it comes before or after the red "X", but it is by far my favorite stage of the fight. Remember Claus reaching out his hand to Lucas in the real final battle? Claus was so serious-looking, almost expressionless. He had so many deep and loving feelings for his brother at the very end, but his face was blank. Now you see Claus, in his normal clothing, in the same exact pose, but he has a SEVERELY EXAGGERATED look of glee on his face. You know the corny face they use in low-budget animes? He's doing that! I couldn't believe how intelligent the programmers of this battle were! It's a mocking gesture, think about it like this: "Hee hee! Hey, Lucas! I'm right here, just like how you remember me! And I'm happy! Isn't this what you wanted?!" A carrot on a string leading the horse, so to say. Lucas is so terrified by his built-up feelings of Claus that he wanted a reprieve, to see his smiling brother... but Lucas hadn't won the battle yet; with his desparation he FORCED the image of Claus to smile, so yes, Claus is smiling, but in an evily mocking way!
Next is actually the reason I had to turn off the video the first time. A true colored image of Claus fills the entire screen in an inescapable way, he is standing upright as if in human contact with you, but he has the face of a corpse. In the real final battle, Lucas was standing there, face-to-face with his brother after Claus had taken off the mask, with so many words, emotions, and potential for communication open to him, but he could say nothing before his brother took his own life, and I have a feeling the "silent protagonist syndrome" of so many RPGs was not to blame. So here, Claus' presence is being forced upon Lucas, he's right there as if to say "talk to me now because you couldn't before", but in a rattling contrast that dead face is right there, unable to recieve Lucas' statements and feelings, creating the greatest and most accurate testament to the barrier of mortality separating Lucas and Claus. Actually, you can see a VERY TAME sprite rip of this image in the following link. Hopefully you can download images on your computer... [link] But make that image transparent, wavering, fill up the entire screen, and with creepy music (I was listening to the audio at that point), and it's a whole different story.
When I first saw that, I felt ill and accidentally clicked to a different part of the video in fright, so I'm not quite sure when this stage shows up. But the upright corpse of Lucas is now a hollow red outline, with grey gases in the background and inside the outline. Not much to elaborate on here, I actually think it's not too different from the first image of corpse Claus.
Next is... by FAR the worst image that showed up during the fight. I have NEVER in my life been so scared. Best part was, I tried to close the window and my comp was freezing, so... it was a bad situation. The image of Claus you see IS the background. It's entirely red, with a screaming face vaguely etched in purple, like the color of a bruise, and it has pin-point, bright eyes, the color of bile, and the face you see is alligned with the top and center of the window. I can't... explain it properly. It was really horrible... I wasn't even watching it in motion, but my friend told me that it was a rolling image and seemed to be talking to you. I don't see the need to elaborate on this either. It's the most hellish, scary image I can think of. It conveys the trauma of Lucas clearly!
One image I never managed to see was one where there was a black box in the middle of Claus' face, and whenever it attacked it flashed... I think it was called Rope Snake. Before seeing the red face of Claus, my friend said it was the most scary. But I don't know. But from what I've heard, here's what I think. A black box is a basic, non-human object. But the fact that it flashes when attacking assigns it a sort of sentience, which is creepy indeed. It's like imagining an inanimate object suddenly, without warning, coming to life and killing you. Also, since it's a generic black box, we can't truly comprehend the nature of what it's supposed to be, and the unknown fills our mind with horror. (After joining Starmen.net I've heard that it was because a sprite was never actually developed for Rope Snake. But is there any chance that the black box appeared as it was supposed to and the name Rope Snake was used by default by accident? I hear you can get different monster names aside from Rope Snake. Sorry for my ignorance! )
Also, you may recall that I mentioned it's entirely possible that Lucas would imagine, as in falsely believe, his brother haunting him. I think Lucas, having worn the Franklin Badge, would feel at least some responsibility for having killed Claus. And if this is even too much of a stretch, Lucas is thoroughly portrayed as a sensitive individual. Earlier on in the game, he eats some hallucinogenic mushrooms and imagines Claus saying to him "Everyone is waiting for you. Waiting to throw stones at you and spit on you." "Who's everyone?" "Everyone you love..." That mindset is just built into Lucas, I imagine he feels guilty and scared about a lot of things... It's just his nervous personality.
