Bergkamp - Arsenal style is a ´manager´s dream´
Arsenal’s brand of football is a “manager’s dream”, according to Dennis Bergkamp.
The Dutch striker played a major role in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Charlton at Highbury. Thierry Henry took the plaudits with two magnificent goals but Bergkamp had an excellent game alongside the Frenchman.
He set up Freddie Ljungberg for the first and then, after Henry’s cheeky second goal, helped Arsenal run riot. They scored two more but it could have been four against a usually resolute Charlton side.
“We needed that second goal,” said Bergkamp. “We needed a cushion. But after we got that we could relax more. And you could see when we do relax how easy we can make it look.
“It was every manager’s dream - one-touch football that is so quick and so difficult to defend against.
“It is not only keeping the ball and having one-touch football but it is with a purpose to go forward, create chances and score goals.
“It is fantastic and a joy to play. That’s exactly how I want to play football.”
Wenger - Henry can be better than Zidane
Arsène Wenger believes Thierry Henry could become a more complete player than Zinedine Zidane.
The Real Madrid midfielder is considered the greatest player in the world today and pipped the Arsenal striker to the FIFA World Player award in 2003.
The nominations for this year’s prize are announced later today and, if his club manager is to be believed, Henry has the potential to supersede his countryman.
“It´s always difficult to compare with the other great players there have been in Europe but I feel Thierry is just amazing. He has all the ingredients.
“He’s 27 now and you make your name between 27 and 32. I’ve seen Zidane at 27 and he was not the Zidane at 30. I think Henry is in advance of Zidane. He has all you want.”
Henry was superb in Saturday’s victory over Charlton, scoring two stunning strikes. It was his third game in eight days and, in Wenger’s eyes, illustrated a very important facet of Henry’s make-up.
“I´ve never had a striker who performs like he does week in, week out,” he said. “Every three days he can perform. It´s down to his genetics but also the fact he leads a clean life. He does everything right. He does not drink or go out.
“He just loves what he does and when that happens you just want to enjoy the next game.”
