Twinsenien Twinsenienne Bonjour
alors voici une interview faite dans le magasine E-Mag enfin bref c´est un magasine trés connu en Angleterre IoI . .. cette interview est trés trés trés intéressante jugez en par vous mêmes:
Last month we interviewed Philippe Vachey, sound creator for Little Big Adventure. This month we continue our own adventure as we talk to Frederick Raynal. Fred has claim to a few of the true great games of the 1990´s. First he created Alone In the Dark in 1992, an outstanding success. He then went on to create such titles as Little Big Adventure ( LBA, 1995) and Toy Commander ( 1999). Emag editor Michael Enness contacted Fred to ask if he would be willing to talk about LBA, and he was...
So here we go then, my first question is what are your favourite parts in LBA1, and 2? and why?
It´s quite difficult to tell which parts I prefer; I don´t see them with the same feeling as players. I can also say that the biggest pleasures were when we finished building them. May be, places where discreet mode was useful, because it was a bit of Metal Gear Solid before it exists.
Who are your favourite characters?
Except Twinsen and Zoe, my favourite character is Arthur but you don´t know him yet! So let me say Baldino because its capabilities allow us to add very interesting features in the story or game play every time we need them.
What inspires you to create the games?
Generally speaking before learning to program ( 1980) I loved to create board games to make my friends play. Making people having fun is my main motivation.
With LBA, I wanted to create an isometric adventure game since I played Alien8 and Knight Lore, I was just waiting for 3D to come to have characters not limited with 8 directions or so. Zelda is also a kind I love with no equivalent on PC. So LBA is only a Zelda like game in Alien8 environments with an Alone in the Dark way to control 3D animated characters plus a lot of talking characters like Monkey Island and in-between levels animated sequences like Pacman.
How big a part did your wife Yael play in the creation of LBA?
Yael Barroz is part of the former team of Adeline Software with Didier Chanfray and Laurent Salmeron. When we were setting up Adeline, before having any computer we had about one month talking everyday about the universe, the characters, the story and the game play. There is a piece of everybody in everything but Yael as the only girl of the team brought her female vision of things that moderates our male wishes of action and blood. At production time she was in charge of colours, palette, all sprites and isometric backgrounds modelling.
I ask these next few questions on behalf of what is undoubtedly the biggest LBA fan club, the Magic Ball Network.
Tell me about your life away from computer games. What do you enjoy doing with your spare time?
Usually I like to spend some time with my children ( playing video games). Electronic gadgets are also something I like a lot to create and build.
What are your ambitions in life?
To make my family and game players happy.
Do you watch sports? Do you follow a particular team in anything?
I´m not a big sport fan, so I don´t follow a particular team but I like to watch mechanical sports like Formula One. I did some motocross and go-kart races when I was younger.
Now I’d like to talk about LBA3. I have read all that is available to read about this game and I would love to see it made. But what I am interested is what you think of the idea. Would you want make the game with the same people? Philippe and Didier for example.
Definitely! If LBA3 would see the light of day, which we all want, it could only happen if Didier, Yael, Sebastien and Philippe ( among others) are part of it.
Today we have much enhanced graphics capabilities and such that it is difficult to even imagine what LBA3 would look like. Can an LBA3 ever live up to the expectations of the fans?
I hope so; Seb, Didier and I already talk a lot about that. LBA3 must use a high-end 3D engine to match my game play and visual expectations. The interface could also change...
I bet you have been asked this a thousand times! But right now, the fans would like to know - when are you going to make LBA3?
I can´t answer this question because I just don´t know. There are some issues but we are talking about LBA3 each time we meet with Didier. We want to make it. One of those issues is to make our schedules match
Thank you for your time.
You´re very welcome.
