Since its release it is been clear that the Wii is currently the favourite console, surpassing the Xbox 360 in sales and gathering the biggest video game library of the three major consoles. However the Wiis sales are only at 25 million and many of the 100 million Playstation gamers are still on Playstation 2s and haven’t upgraded yet, this means we may be on the brink of a rapid expansion of the ever increasing PS3 sales.
If an uneducated PS2 gamer, oblivious to the bitter console war and rivalry, had enough money and was out shopping and saw a Wii and a PS3 they would stick to their Playstation brand as it is probably the only one they know. If all 50-60 million of the PS2 owners upgraded to PS3s soon, then the PS3 would blow its competition out of the water and get a clear lead over the Wii.
However unless Sony start a push for this very soon and appeal to those gamers the opportunity will be lost. I myself know 3 separate families, who have always been Playstation faithful, purchase a Wii in recent times just because the have played on mine. This is the real ‘Wii effect’ and it is diminishing Sony’s audience fast. The Wii is this generations console for casual gamers, and a large portion of the PS2 gamers were casual gamers. Casual gamers rarely purchase more than one console so the window of opportunity for Sony is closing fast.
en gros sony doit se bouger le cul avant que les possesseurs de ps2 ne se barrent sur wii.
