Oui je fais bien "xmonad --recompile" en tant qu'utilisateur.

Non... Ceci n'est pas valide !

Du coup on va repartir de la base :
quand as-tu installé ta debian ? Avec quoi ? Quelle version ?
As-tu déjà fait une upgrade (au sens mise à jour vers une nouvelle version de Debian) ?
que contient ton fichier /etc/apt/sources.list ?

PS : je n'ai aucune de mes deux configs (une lenny et une unstable) qui matche avec la tienne.

Oui, je m'étais aussi fait la remarque que "lenny/sid" pouvait correspondre à Hardy... sauf que [Soki] me dit qu'il a installé Debian 5.0, qui est bien lenny, mais qui n'est plus en testing (donc plus accompagné de /sid)

Bref, soit l'origine de l'iso est douteuse (le site officiel, c'est http://www.debian.org/ rappelons-le), soit il a écrasé son sources.list par mettre une configuration ubuntuesque suite aux instructions d'un tutoriel mal foutu.

Je parie sur la deuxième proposition.

Pas crédible... Une iso de la Debian 5.0 conduit à un /etc/debian_version contenant "5.0".

mmm, sur ma ubuntu 8.10 qui est une maj incrementale depuis ubuntu 5.jesaispasquoi, j'ai

$ dpkg -S /etc/debian_version
base-file: /etc/debian_version

Si le package base-file est present chez debian. Il est possible que le paquet ait ete upgraer au milieu.
En tout cas, je pense qu'il vaut mieux reinstaller la machien entierement et ne pas faire n'importe quoi avec /etc/apt/sources.list
