Ça pourrait s'expliquer scénaristiquement. Personnellement j'aime vraiment l'interprétation que le choix de la prochaine régénération se fait en fonction de " l'inconscient " du seigneur du temps, ça ouvre des perspectives scénaristiques.
A partir de là on peut imaginer qu'un retour en arrière peut s'expliquer par une volonté de revenir en arrière, de refus d'avancer, ou l'impression de pas en avoir terminé avec une époque de sa vie car il aurait aimé changer ce qu'il a fait durant celle-ci ou par nostalgie... etc...
