Javier Mascherano has been handed a £15,000 fine and a further two match suspension by the Football Association following his sending off at Old Trafford.
The Reds' Argentine midfielder - who missed the derby victory over Everton as a result of his red card against Manchester United - will now also miss this weekend's clash with Arsenal and the home game with Blackburn following a Disciplinary Commission hearing today.

Responding to the announcement from the FA, a Liverpool spokesman said: "Although we received a fair hearing we must now decide whether to appeal on the basis of inconsistency of sentencing for Javier based on past precedents."

En fin de contrat en juin prochain, le défenseur central scandinave de Liverpool, Sami Hyppiä, a prolongé son contrat jusqu'en 2009 avec les Reds, rapporte le site officiel du club. Arrivé en provenance de Willem II en 1999, l'international finlandais a disputé 440 matches avec son club de coeur.

Jermaine Pennant has been ruled out of Liverpool's bid to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
The Reds' midfielder - who was omitted from the squad which played at the Emirates in the first leg - sustained a hamstring injury during the 1-1 draw in north London on Saturday.

Pennant joins long term injury victims Daniel Agger and Harry Kewell on the sidelines for tomorrow night's game.
