Liverpool goalkeeper considers next season's tactics
Liverpool – Pepe Reina reveals how side will improve to challenge for titles
Pepe Reina believes that Liverpool will concentrate on being more consistent next season, in order to finish in the top four and challenge for the Barclays Premier League title.
“We cannot just perform against the top sides because a season is ten months long,” the Liverpool goalkeeper said.
“If we get the balance right, we’ll be a lot, lot closer to where we want to be.”
Reina heaped praise on Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish for restoring belief in the squad that they can be great once more, but the Spaniard said the task now is to work on winning the games between the big ones.
“We have improved since Kenny became manager, we have beaten the big teams, but it is important as players to repeat that in every game.
“We need to be consistent with the aggression, commitment – everything.”
Liverpool have gone from mid table to pushing for a Europa League, and possibly Champions League, spot since Kenny Dalglish took over as caretaking manager. And only title leaders Manchester United have amassed more premiership points than Liverpool since Dalglish took over.
And while this is a big achievement for the Liverpool manager, Reina says the squad need to focus on starting next season well so that they can do more than just an outside chance for a Champions League birth.
“We started this season and the last one not the best,” Reina said.
“Next time, we need to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
