" FERGIE – RUUD IS WORLD CLASS" ( Red Issue)

Story by Editor 11 April 2003

The proof was in the pudding on Wednesday night

Fergie, speaking to the MEN, has hailed Van Nistelrooy as
one of the best around:

" There is no doubt about Ruud´s standing among the best. No
doubting whatsoever,

" The proof of the pudding is always in the eating and you
saw that in Madrid.

" Raul and Ruud are different types of strikers but they both
put in fantastic performances on the highest stage and the
best stage you could get.

" It was the biggest game in the world and Ruud played like
that. That is what you call evidence.

" With van Nistelrooy in our team we can score goals,

" He was marvellous in Madrid. He´s fantastic and he´s
improving. Everything about him is improving. His overall
game is getting better. The way he is leading the line and
his strength? What a powerful man he is. Without question he
is more powerful than he has ever been.

" It´s his second year in England and that has helped. He
came in last season for his first Premiership campaign after
being out for a year.

" He was tiring towards the end but now he can play all the
time.

" I predicted he could score as many goals again and more. We
knew he´d improve. Some players like Ruud want to improve.
It is more down to them than us. The desire of the lad is
that he wants to improve all the time.

" Some coaches will take all the credit for what happens to a
player. I am realistic. I´d rather the player wants to be a
better player. The guiding part is relatively easy if they
want it.

" Of all the players I have had the ones who´ve had the
desire to improve have been the great players. You can guide
them then if you have that tool to work with.

" They are the tool and if they have the hunger like Ruud has
then it is easier. Ruud wants to do it. He has the hunger to
be the best. So in that case it is relatively easy for us as
coaches."

" KEANE SHOULD MOVE BACK" ( Red Issue....ca m´emballe pas trop cette idee masi vs juve il avait et impeccable en defense alors pkoi pas?!)

Story by Editor 11 April 2003

Des Kelly joins in

In his column in the Mirror, United fan Des Kelly looks at
Keano’s contribution to the Madrid game:

‘There is no point in ignoring the evidence, like some Iraqi
´information´ minister. If Sir Alex Ferguson is to have any
chance of rescuing his Champions League challenge then he
must make one of the toughest decisions of his career.

‘It is time to remove his lieutenant Roy Keane from the
midfield battle zone. In Madrid this week Keane was a
virtual spectator, reduced to near-immobility by the hip
problems which are pushing him towards a premature
retirement.

‘The most dominant Premiership player of the past decade now
looks old beyond his years and strangely sapped of his
hunger. This was never more apparent than when he was
chasing shadows in the Bernabeu this week.

‘At one stage I even saw Keane raise an apologetic hand to
Fabien Barthez, ruefully acknowledging his teammate´s
complaints after another Real attack by-passed his half-
hearted challenge. There was a time when no goalkeeper would
have had a reason to question Keane´s desire. There was a
time when they wouldn´t have even dared to try.

‘If he is to have any future at the club the choice is
simple - he must re-invent himself as a central defender, or
step aside.

‘Ferguson has proved sufficiently ruthless on previous
occasions to make the tough call - dropping goalkeeper Jim
Leighton for an FA Cup final replay, dumping Paul Ince
without ceremony and rooting out the drinking culture he
found when he first arrived. He will not want to
unceremoniously bundle Keane away, but this commendable
loyalty may be working against him right now.

‘Even so, it would be unfair to make Keane shoulder all the
blame for the obvious gap in quality. There were many
reasons United were beaten like a Saddam portrait outside
the Baghdad branch of Russell and Bromley.’

" FERGIE LOOKING FORWARD TO SATURDAY " ( Red Issue)

Story by Editor 11 April 2003

Beckham is the only doubt

Fergie on Newcastle’s title bid:

" They´re not out of it, but losing last Sunday´s match has
made it more difficult for them. Their run-in for the last
three games are against low teams, two of whom could be
relegated by then. But going to St James´ Park we don´t need
to trumpet their cause too much other than to say their home
form is terrific. They´ve got good support - the atmosphere
is terrific and it should be a great game of football.

" The players are very aware of the stakes tomorrow, as they
were on Tuesday. It won´t do us any harm! The important
thing is to win our game and we´ll take it from there. It´s
onto the Arsenal match after that, which could be the
biggest game of the season."

There is only one injury doubt, Beckham may not be fit in
time to play:

" We have the one doubt - we´ll see what he´s like tomorrow
and that´s David Beckham. He´s got a slight strain in his
hamstring and coming off the game on Tuesday he needs time
to recover."

IMUSA are on the case

IMUSA are compiling a thorough account of the unacceptable
way in which United fans were treated before and during the recent
EC Semi-final at the Bernabeu in Madrid. This information will be
presented to UEFA with the account of club officials and an FA safety
officer included.

If you attended the match in Madrid and encountered heavy-

=>"United set to sign Brazil star Ronaldinho"
Manchester United are poised to land Brazil World Cup star Ronaldinho for a cut-price £10million. They are in advanced talks with the player’s brother and agent Roberto Assis and could thrash out a deal within the next few days for the Paris St Germain playmaker to move to Old Trafford in the summer. His arrival may mean United will be prepared to off-load Ryan Giggs, with Inter Milan already signalling their interest in paying up to £15m for the Wales midfielder. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been tracking Ronaldinho, 23, for several months and is confident of reaching an agreement for a move before the end of the season.
David McDonnell, Daily Mirror

"Fergie: I wouldn´t swap my Ruud for Raul"

Sir Alex Ferguson last night paid Ruud van Nistelrooy the ultimate tribute by insisting he would not swap his prolific goalscorer for any striker in the world. Fergie may have hailed Raul the finest player on the planet following the Real Madrid forward´s display in the 3-1 rout of Manchester United, but the Old Trafford boss is unequivocal when it comes to van Nistelrooy. " I wouldn´t swap Ruud for anyone else, that´s for sure," said Ferguson. " There´s no doubt about Ruud´s standing among the best in the world. No doubt whatsoever." It would be easy to dismiss the assessment by Sir Alex - a manager who finds it impossible to criticise his players in public - as another show of blind loyalty. But van Nistelrooy´s extraordinary record in the two seasons since his £19million move from PSV Eindhoven justified Ferguson´s praise.
David McDonnell, Daily Mirror

"Giggs for sale" ( c´est quoi c conneries!!!!)

Ryan Giggs is sure he will be sold by Manchester United this summer. The Welsh winger wants to stay at Old Trafford. But he believes United will let him go if the price is right. Inter Milan have already made it clear they are pepared to offer up to £15million for the player, who will be 30 in November. The Italian giants have also let their interest be known to his advisers through a third party. With three years left on his current contract, Giggs would not have to leave Old Trafford. He is not willing to stay, though, if the club no longer want him. A close friend of Giggs said: " Ryan´s heart is at Manchester United. But he firmly believes the club want to sell him. He has no choice but to consider his options."
Neil Custis, The Sun

"Fergie won´t chance Becks"

David Beckham is out of Manchester United´s big Premiership clash at Newcastle today. Becks, 27, has a hamstring strain picked up in the midweek 3-1 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid. Manager Alex Ferguson is not prepared to risk his star midfielder as he looks ahead to a crunch top-of-the-table contest against Arsenal at Highbury on Wednesday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to take Beckham´s place as United look to move three points ahead of the Gunners - who play a FA Cup semi- final tomorrow - in the title race. Fergie said: " The key is to get a result and then we will go to Highbury with a big chance. That will be the biggest game of the season, no doubt about that, and a win against Newcastle will be the best thing for us."
Neil Custis, The Sun

"I´m after your job Scholes "

Kieron Dyer today comes face to face with the man blocking his path to England success. Manchester United´s Paul Scholes is manager Sven Goran Eriksson´s No1 choice for the attacking midfield role on which Dyer has set his sights. And the Newcastle man has gone on record as saying that Scholes is ´the guv´nor´ in that position. But he knows that if he is ever to stamp his authority on the international scene, he has to knock Scholes out of pole position. Eriksson has tried to accommodate the Newcastle star. He used him on the left in the 2-0 win over Liechtenstein - but it was hardly a roaring success and Dyer was axed for the victory over Turkey. So, at St James´ Park today, Dyer is on a double mission. He wants three points for Newcastle and to take centre stage from Scholes. It is time to get ruthless.
Shaun Custis, The Sun

"Ruud: I´m so clumsy"

Ruud van Nistelrooy has admitted that he´s clumsy, hates tactics and is not even the best striker in Holland. The Newcastle players, humiliated by the Manchester United ace´s hat-trick in a 5-3 thrashing when the sides last met, will be stunned to hear that confession. United could go three points clear in the Premiership if they beat Bobby Robson´s Toon Army today while Arsenal focus on the FA Cup tomorrow. But United´s 38-goal striker insisted: " I´m not a brainy player, I´m a footballer who likes to play intuitively and with my heart on my sleeve. The tactical side of the game doesn´t do that much for me. United let me burst into open spaces because I love to run.
Ben Kinsella, The Sun

Premiership preview

Manchester United face a tricky test of their Premiership title credentials when they make a trip to Newcastle.
A win for Sir Alex Ferguson´s side would put them three points ahead of the Gunners, who are on FA Cup duty this weekend.

A defeat for Sunderland at Birmingham would see the Black Cats relegated, while West Brom could also slip out of the top flight this weekend.
