isaksson united dreams

--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------

Rennes goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson says it would be a dream to play for Manchester United.

The Red Devils have linked with a number of top European-based custodians in recent weeks, as United seem keen to bolster their goalkeeping ranks.

Their attentions have turned to former Juventus keeper Isaksson, who performed well for Sweden at Euro 2004 this past summer.

Rennes have already made it clear that the Scandinavian is not for sale, but the Sweden international revealed it would be hard to pass up such an opportunity, should one come from the Old Trafford club.

" It would be a dream come true to play for Manchester United," Isaksson said. " I wouldn´t hesitate for a second.

" I have developed my game considerably and I wouldn´t let a chance like that pass me by."

Keane Cautions Inconsistent United

Roy Keane says there is a serious warning in the way United followed victory over Arsenal with defeat at Portsmouth.

Having missed three matches with a flu virus, the Reds skipper came off the bench during the 2-0 defeat at Fratton Park, but warned: " We´ve won against Arsenal and Liverpool this season. Yet against the so-called lesser teams, sides we should be beating, we´ve not.

" I think that was part of the club´s problem many years ago during the 80´s and early 90´s," he told MUTV. " We´d beat the top teams but lose to the lower down clubs; it´s all about being consistent."

United were guilty of that last season; two league draws and an FA Cup semi final win against Arsenal were overshadowed by defeats to sides like Wolves, Man City, Fulham and Portsmouth.

" We had a very good result last weekend so to lose against Portsmouth was, as the manager said, a real kick in the teeth. But we´ve got to bounce back and try and win on Wednesday.

" We missed too many chances and gave away two bad goals. That´s a recipe for disaster at any level. With the chances we created we should be hitting the target more and certainly score more often.

" You can only analyse a game so much, but if you´re going to miss the kind of chances we created against Portsmouth, you´re going to cause yourself trouble. It´s all about putting the ball in the back of the net and we didn´t do that.

" We want to put it right because unless you become consistent you´re not going to win anything."

United first-team players have pointed to the ability they see in training every day as an indicator that the team will gel and translate that talent to matches on a consistent basis.

But there is no guarantee in such an assertion, according to Keane. He remains positive, however, about the talent in the squad and the way the team is preparing for matches.

" Training has been great and we´ve all been very focused," he said on a positive note. " It´s great to do well in training but you´ve got to do it on the pitch on a matchday. You´ve seen a lot of players over the years who are outstanding in training, but come the day of a game it doesn´t quite happen.

" So it´s important that we put everything we´ve been doing in training into practice on the pitch and that´s down to the players.

" Our preparation for games and the work we do on the opposition is spot-on," counters Keane. " But it´s down to the players who go out on the pitch. We need to be more consistent."

Edu for United? That will make Wenger boil
Sir Alex Ferguson can further stoke up the lingering animosity between Old Trafford and Highbury by ´stealing´ one of Arsene Wenger´s coveted midfield players without paying a transfer fee. Ferguson is understood to be looking closely at Brazilian midfielder Edu, whose contract runs out next summer.
Harry Harris, Daily Express

Ron: We taught you a lesson
Cristiano Ronaldo taunted Arsenal last night, saying: “We taught them a lesson at Old Trafford last week.” The £12.5million Portugal star insisted: “We showed Arsenal how to play in difficult circumstances and then carried off the points. Even though United are nine points behind, there is time to overtake them and I have every confidence in my team. There are still plenty of points left for us to win and we plan to cut the gap on them bit by bit.”
Mark Irwin, The Sun

Keep your nose out of it, Fergie
Arsene Wenger last night told bitter rival Sir Alex Ferguson to mind his own business and leave the FA to deal with the fall-out from the Battle of Old Trafford. Furious Manchester United boss Ferguson has rounded on Arsenal striker Dennis Bergkamp by adding his alleged punch on Alan Smith to his dossier of video evidence which he has sent to Soho Square. However, Gunners boss Wenger yesterday launched a thinly-veiled attack on Ferguson by insisting it is only the FA who should be involved in compiling the evidence before they complete their investigation into the match. Wenger said: " We´re happy with any objective evidence about anything on the pitch or in the tunnel. It´s down to the FA. It´s the FA´s job, it´s up to them."
John Cross, Daily Mirror

Fergie agrees to shut up over bitter feud with Arsenal
Sir Alex Ferguson has agreed to bite his lip and stop criticising Arsenal in a move aimed at ending Manchester United´s feud with the London club. " We´ll be making no further public comment on these issues," said the club in a statement. " We are obliged to respond to a request for information from the FA and we are doing that."
Ian Ladyman, Daily Mail

Sir Alex blast at sluggish strikers
Sir Alex Ferguson has warned his misfiring strikers they must rediscover their goalscoring touch immediately to salvage the club´s ailing season. " The strikers have got to take responsibility for themselves," said Fergie. " It is a concern when you´re not scoring goals, particularly with the talent and goal threat we have in our squad. Against Portsmouth we missed a number of chances and sometimes didn´t even hit the target. You can´t have that, it´s just terrible. And I couldn´t tell you why it was."

Italie : Une dette de 320 M€ pour les cinq plus grands clubs
02 novembre 2004 - 15 h 56 -

Ruud a Sparta starter

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Ruud van Nistelrooy will play from the start against Sparta Prague in Wednesday´s UEFA Champions League encounter.

Dutch international marksman van Nistelrooy missed Manchester United´s weekend defeat at Portsmouth due to suspension and Ferguson clearly feels he needs van Nistelrooy´s attacking threat in the team.

" Ruud will be back. I can guarantee that he will be playing," said the Scottish tactician.

" We need van Nistelrooy up there again because we missed some incredible chances at Portsmouth."

Ferguson was less than impressed with his side´s performance at Fratton Park on Saturday, but is unlikely to make drastic changes as he seeks to secure the three points which would take The Red Devils to the cusp of qualification.
