"Was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2006 Minnesota State Championship Tournament."
Raiders goalie Ben Hause is sure McDonagh, a rugged 6-1, 200 pounds, will succeed. "[McDonagh] has a determination to not let any guys get around him," Hause said. "[His] awareness of where other guys on the ice are [is] remarkable.´ Ryan saved me so many times. He was a huge reason why we were so effective in last year´s state tournament. In one of the games, I only had eight shots on goal to deal with. He´s such a great talent. I´m going to miss all the tips he would give me during the games."
"In every game we played this season, Ryan was the best player on the ice," Cretin-Derham coach Jim O´Neill said. "At his size (6 feet 1, 195 pounds), and the way he skates, he´s got the whole package. He´s the best physical player I´ve seen."

“Ryan McDonagh was the player that Bob talked about this week,” explained Timmins. “We were surprised to see him still sitting there at the No. 12 spot. We did all we could to move up in the draft order, but we couldn’t find the right fit. We were extremely relieved once it was our turn, knowing that we were going to select Ryan after all.”
“We considered him among the best who tested at the recent combines in Toronto,” added Timmins. “He’s already quite far along physically. I mean, this kid is a horse. We’ve been eyeing him for two years now. He performed very well at the Under-18 World Championships this year. We were nervous about another team being interested in him, given the way his name had been circulating of late.”

"I think skating is by far one of the strongest aspects of my game. In the game today if you can´t skate, there is no way that your skills will be effective. Guys are bigger, stronger, and faster these days, and if you are not able to move with them and defend them, then you are not very effective in your game. In the off-season, I try to work on my skating a lot."

"he has great skating ability, great balance," said O´Neill (coach). "He was the best skater on the ice in every game we played this year, forward or defense. He covers a lot of ground with good lateral movement. And he has an offensive touch to him. A pretty well-rounded defenseman."

McDonagh is slightly ahead of Shattenkirk in most rankings and might squeeze into the top 10.
"What I enjoyed about him was his competitive nature, and he was extremely tough to play against in the defensive end," Rolston said.
McDonagh is impressive at both ends of the ice, possessing the talent to rush the puck and complete passes while also being able to outmuscle opponents along the boards and in the corners.

"I’d like to be a guy that can be counted on to play strong defense late in a game to hold on to a lead. Someone who can also run a power play and be a contributor on the penalty kill as well. I’d like to be a player that my teammates can count on when I’m out on the ice."

“David and I played together a few times before he left for the University of Minnesota last fall,” explained McDonagh, who is headed for the University of Wisconsin in the fall. “So I guess David and I will be going head-to-head this year, but I’m definitely looking forward to playing alongside him on the Canadiens’ blue line one day.”
