NORTH CHICAGO--The 37-year-old brother of National Football League running back Michael "the Burner" Turner was the innocent victim of a shooting Friday night in North Chicago.
Police found Travis Turner, 37, of North Chicago wounded in the neck after they investigated a report of shots fired and they came upon a traffic accident near Honore Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive where one vehicle had overturned, said Investigations Division Commander George McClary.
Authorities found Turner on the ground with a bullet wound to the neck. He was treated at the scene and then transported to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.
McClary said the investigation revealed that an unidentified shooter was shooting at the driver of one of two vehicles involved in the accident and instead hit Turner, who was not the intended target.
Anyone with information about the shooting should call police at (847) 596-8745 or visit the city's web site at www.northchicago.org and click on Public Safety.
