First off, I won´t be attending tomorrow, it was nuts today, we´re talking 4 rows deep standing room and as I mentioned they change rinks halfway through the scrimmage and the second rink was jam packed before the 1st half on the 1st rink was 10 minutes into a 30 minute half.
Here´s my opinion...Perezoghin and Higgins are as good as on this team, mark my words they´re on the team...they´ve both been awesome the last two days, the line of Koivu,Higgins and Perez was dominant, their speed is unreal and Higgins showed great things scoring a couple of goals, he´s really strong on the puck and in the corners and the forechecking of Perez and Higgins is high NHL calibre forechecking, they are so fast on the forecheck that they´ll make any slow defenceman pay and they did today...on two occasions the line spent the entire shift in the offensive zone because they kep creating turnovers...Perez lacks finish but has great vision and is a very similar player to Koivu, high energy with good playmaking skills.
Hainsey...Oh Hainsey!!! We got a glimpse in the first 10 seconds of the scrimmage why he may have taken long to earn an NHL job...a typical brain cramp...it was one mistake but it cost a goal as he tried to make a backhand pass cross ice in the defensive zone, Koivu picked it up as easily as possible to go in alone and score...it was ugly...but after that he went on to have a decent game not making other mistakes.
The whites led by Saku´s line won 7-3...Koivu with one and Higgins with two...Zed scored one also as did Markov...a couple were deflection and one in a scrum...Vandermeer also scored one for the whites...
The reds got three...Souray scored on Theo with one of his patent blasts from the point, Hossa had a decent game scoring on a nifty shot that beat Theo low and last but not least Ribeiro scored the other on a gorgeous two on one feed from none other than Lantendress, who once again didn´t look out of place and played just as well as vets.
Pleckanec for the whites played a feisty game throwing hits and getting under peoples skin including Souray,Aitken,Komo and Bonk who all gave him little shots as he skated away throughout the game...Plecks has awesome speed and is good on the forecheck, he plays with high energy and creates opportunities, he was flying out there.
Danis had a rough day for the reds letting in a couple of bad goals...I think the Hainsey mistake ten seconds in the game got to him.
Lapierre once again did very well, the guy is very fast and I noticed his game has gotten better and better as the days go by...using his speed he gets into the corners pretty hard with Begin like energy often bouncing off the boards as he misses hits, but great energy and size.
Komisarek once again played very well, solid and his new found speed and mobility helps him move the puck out quicker.
Another Dman that played well was Cote, I know he´s Hamilton bound but he´s a big boy who was throwing his weight around and playing physical, he´s not the best skater but he clears the crease.
I found Kosti had his best game along side Ribs/Latendress, he´s getting more and more comfortable and whenever he carries the puck in he really seems to attract two or three guys leaving extra room for Ribs and Latendress who had like three odd man rushes and scored on one nice feed by Latendress.
Like I said I´m pretty sure Perez and Higgins are as good as in...Dagenais isn´t doing much and Hossa has been better than Dagenais, Plecks has been a sparkplug and throw in Latendress who at 18 has been better than any of these guys and you have a nice problem...
I think Vandermeer will have the tough guy job simply because he´s a decent hockey player, although Ivanans is a freakin giant who is so intimidating, people in the stands are just in awe of his size and he skates hard and plays with energy but isn´t as good a hockey player as Vandermeer.
On defence Streit had a good day, he´s getting more and more physical and did a great job containing a much bigger Kovalev on a couple of occasions, great skater...throw in Hainsey who appart from today´s brutal error is having a good camp and that makes more difficult desicions...Bouillon as usual is going about his business of doing the good job he always does without fanfare, you could always count his consistancy, but the question is do we want more from a dman, because Hainsey and Streit could give us more mobility and offence.
Other than that the scrimmages are getting more and more intense and today was extremely intense which makes it even more interesting that Perez and Higgins stood out as the two best forwards.
They finished the scrimmage with a shootout and Koivu scored a beauty on Danis he was the only one to score out of Kovalev,Locke,Perez,Hossa and Dagenais...those were the only shooters...Price robbed Dagenais and shutout the red in the shootout.
