PFA chooses Chelsea quartet for best team
Monday, Apr 24, 2006
Chelsea players missed out on the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year award announced on Sunday evening but four of the club’s stars did make the Premiership Team of the Season.
John Terry, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole had all been nominated for the top player award which had been won by Terry a year ago but this time were pipped by Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard. The PFA’s Young Player of the Year honour was collected by Man United’s Wayne Rooney.
When it came to naming the eleven players voted into the top flight select side by their fellow professionals, there was deserved recognition for William Gallas whose versatility was acknowledged by a place as the team’s left-back. Terry was also in defence with Lampard and Cole making the midfield.
The full Premiership team was:
Shay Given - Newcastle United
Pascal Chimbonda - Wigan Athletic
John Terry — Chelsea
James Carragher — Liverpool
William Gallas — Chelsea
Steven Gerrard — Liverpool
Frank Lampard — Chelsea
Joe Cole — Chelsea
Cristiano Ronaldo - Manchester United
Thierry Henry — Arsenal
Wayne Rooney - Manchester United
Gerrard meilleur joueur de la saison.
