Sadly, even in a lean 12-hour runtime, you grow desensitised to combat's gruesome pleasures. Part of the problem is the decision to formalise Wolverine's spiralling anger in a rage meter - a tiered bar that juices his general capabilities as it rises, but turns each fight into a harvesting exercise as you attempt to extract rage in the most efficient way possible. And make sure you equip your rage passives - an oxymoron if ever there was one. Your reward for hitting your anger quota? A berserker state where trigger squeezes dissect enemies with canned animations as you look on, bemused, then bored - his rage not so much uncontrollable as simply not under your control. That is a disappointment that feels grafted to the very bones of Marvel's Wolverine, a perfectly polished showcase that never gets its claws in - to us or its leading man.
