DREW WAGAR JANUARY 14, 2016
Alas, as part of writing my own book I was told that the Dark Wheel, in many respects, was no longer considered canon by FD. Precisely what respects, I’m not entirely clear, but I thus can’t reference it in this guide as I’m trying to stick to the established facts. Otherwise – you’re very right indeed!

NICOMAK JUNE 8, 2015
Thanks again Drew. I was looking into the FFE jounals myself. What do you think of the 3 articles bellow :
ANOTHER SPECIES?
COMMON HISTORY OF VIOLENCE
AN END TO THE FUTURE?
Another race, Inra attacking their “homeworld”?
I dont really understand where the interest of thargoids in Merlin comes in the ‘timeline’, are those article in chronological order?
Was there some ‘branching’ in the missions? thinking about the 3rd article there, as in destroying or not destroying the thargoids, or is it just propaganda ?
But then you come back to their interest in Ross 154 which is the last article mentionning them IRCC. (from the page you probably know : http://www.dream-ware.co.uk/first-encounters/journals/all/ )

The details of which journal entries appeared where and when are too complicated for these comments, but in short:
• Journal entries are grouped into blocks. Within a block, entries are in chronological order, but the order of blocks is not necessarily chronological. Unfortunately neither the grouping nor the assignment of entries to journals is visible.
• Yes, there was supposed to be branching in the main Thargoids plot, although the relevant code was never finished and neither branch was actually triggered by player actions (although some post-plot entries, starting with “EMPEROR TO BAN PERFORMERS”, were triggered).
• As far as I can tell, the ‘good’ branch begins with “’ARGENT’S QUEST’ RETURNS”, the ‘bad’ with “AN END TO THE FUTURE?” and the ‘neutral’ with “’QUEST’ STILL MISSING”. Within each branch, the entries are grouped by journal, in the following order: Frontier News; Federal Times; Imperial Herald; Random Intergalactic Gossip (a.k.a. RIG); Universal Scientist. Note that in the ‘bad’ branch the order is somewhat confused by both RIG and Universal Scientist closing (although missions for that branch were not actually implemented, so it was impossible to take anyway).
• Outside of the main Thargoids plot, the assignment of entries to journals is different and rather haphazard.
