One Community
What is One community? It is a shift in mentality, it is a vision. One community, or simply 1com. We are all after all above all things within our gaming life – Starcraft die hard fans..
I was inspired to approach this subject, or rather I mustered up the courage to speak about this subject after browsing through the endless forums as I do sometimes in search for news. As a side effect I am often left with the pulse of the Starcraft community. When I see the endless bickering in the endless Starcraft forums on different sites, I realize that even though many are still lost in their ways, an ever increasing number of gamers out there share this one community vision.
We may play occasionally other games, we may game in private ladders or battle.net but we play Starcraft. Some of us even leave the game altogether only to come back to it a few months or a year later. The one thing that unites us is our love for this game. It is time for all Starcraft players to see this. Many of us already do. I recognize the same names in every community.
We are NOT many clans bickering with each other, we are beyond the clan experience, we are in essence ONE big clan. All the endless fights about which clan is better, which ladder is better, which website is better, which community is better – all of them are pointless. Most of have accounts in several websites and play in many places. Most of us post in more than one forum. These arguments all remind me of people arguing on who is the newbie and who is gosu, when in reality we are all newbies to the likes of Boxer or Nada. And yes you will find that even Boxer has his newbie momment.
The Starcraft community may not be around forever, but if we are to survive we must do so as one. We should really view ourselves as one same community, and fight for our common interests when the need arises. No community is bad, they all have their strong and weak points. Some community leaders may not be of your liking but that should not blind you to the fact that each community is full of Starcraft fans, and in many cases you will see these same fans everywhere.
There is nothing wrong if you hail that you are from WGTour or TL.net. There is nothing wrong if you love PGTour or GG.net. But to belittle any other community makes YOU the newbie. What is important is that you are a Starcraft fan, the rest is secondary. So next time you hear anyone flame another community let him know that you are a Starcraft fan, and show him that it is they who need to do the growing up. Better still don’t waste any words on the matter and just post " 1com."
