Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with the game Battlefield 2.
An improper installation or corruption of the game data can not only prevent the game from loading, but can cause the game to crash at seemingly random but very specific points in the game or even have issue adding any updates to the game. When such an occurrence happens, it’s best to manually remove all of the components to make sure that next installation does not run into the same issues.
When reinstalling make sure you install in the proper order.
Install Battlefield 2. Install Battlefield 2: Special Forces (if applicable).
Install the latest patch. Install Battlefield 2: Euro Forces.
Install the latest patch once again. Install Battlefield 2: Armoured Fury.
Install the latest patch once again. Once this is done try the game again.
If you still dont have the latest patch you may get the file from this link:

NOTE: Be sure to have the Serial Key for the game at hand before going through this steps.
To manually uninstall the Battlefield 2: Euro Force and/or Battlefield 2: Armored Fury booster packs you must do a complete uninstall of Battlefield 2 from your system.
You can manually uninstall the game by removing the files and registry keys associated with it. Be sure to follow these steps exactly as they appear to prevent accidental file/program deletion on your system.
To delete the save files:
Open My Documents. Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
To delete the game files (in the default location):
Open My Computer.
Open the C drive.
Open the Program Files folder.
Open the EA GAMES folder.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
Close all open windows.
Right-click on the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
How to backup the registry:
Click the Start button-> Run Type in "regedit"
Click on the Registry (File in Windows 2000/XP) menu, then click Export Registry File Type in "backup" for the File name, and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
Click Save Save the file as Backup.reg Close the registry editor.
You have now backed up your windows registry.
To edit the registry and remove Battlefield 2:
Click on the Start button.
Click on Run.
Type regedit in the text field.
Click File and then choose Export.
Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Click the plus sign next to Software.
Click the plus sign next to DICE. Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2: Amored Fury folder (if applicable) and choose Delete.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2: Special Forces folder (if applicable) and choose Delete.
Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2 folders.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2: Special Forces folder (if applicable) and choose Delete.
Click the plus sign next to Microsoft. Click the plus sign next to Windows.
Click the plus sign next to CurrentVersion.
Click the plus sign next to Uninstall. Right-click on the key named {0485...-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC4.....} andchoose Delete.
Right-click on the key named {50D...-AF34-4978-96DC-C3034.....} (if applicable) and choose Delete A Confirm Key Delete window will appear, choose Yes.
Close the WindowsRegistry Editor.
Go to the following folder: C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information (If you cannot find this folder you may have to go to Tools > Folder Settings and click the setting to “SHOW hidden folders.”) Find the folders with the exact same values as the registry keys above and delete them. Empty the recycle bin once more.
Close the WindowsRegistry Editor.
Battlefield 2 is now completely removed from your system.
After uninstalling please try the following steps before reinstalling the game. Since some remnants of an installation or patch are stored by Windows as temporary files, which can prevent the re-installation or starting of that program. These temporary files are normally created to temporarily store information in order to free memory for other purposes, or to act as a safety net to prevent data loss when a program performs certain functions. These temporary files however can trick the games installation program into thinking that the game is already installed, or that a patch is installed when the patch has not been applied properly. Because this can cause complication, it becomes necessary to delete these useless remnants to give your system a clean slate prior to launching or installing a piece of software.
To delete your Windows temporary files on Windows XP:
First you will need to delete the standard Windows temporary files:
Click on the Start button.
Click Run.
Type temp into the available text field and click OK.
Click on one of the files in the folder that just opened, and press Ctrl and A to select all of the files in this folder.
Press the Delete key on your keyboard.
When prompted if you are sure, choose Yes to All.
Next you will need to delete your specific logins temporary files:
Click on the Start button.
Click Run.
Type C:\Documents and Settings\<Insert login name here>\Local Settings\Temp in the available text field and click OK.
Note : Be sure to specify your Windows login without the greater than/less than symbols, in the bolded area above.
Click on one of the files in the folder that just opened, and press Ctrl and A to select all of the files in this folder.
Press the Delete key on your keyboard.
When prompted if you are sure, choose Yes to All.
