Robert ‘Let me go for free’
By European Football - May 17 2005
Laurent Robert has told Newcastle that they should let him go on a free transfer now the season has finished. ( Pah, get every bloody penny we can). Speaking to L´Equipe, the too often vocal, yet to seldom committed Frenchman stated:
" I played for the whole season and, suddenly, nothing else."
" Souness didn´t tell me anything.
" But he is a little special coach. He has trouble with a lot of players. It is just like that.
" Several clubs have interest in me. It is not concrete yet but I have no worries.
" I want to leave Newcastle. Going on with Souness, it is not possible.
" We never know what can happen but I don´t want to come back to France. There are some contacts in Spain but, above all, in England.
" I like The Premiership a lot. My family has adapted well.
" I still have one year remaining on my contract but I think the Newcastle officials will let me leave.
" I don´t play anymore so they don´t need me anymore. They should let me go for free.
" If they prevent me from leaving I will stay but I don´t think it´s in the club´s interest to pay me for nothing."
So trying to hold us to ransom, yet again? If he is worth money to a club, we should damn well take it, after all we have a lot of rebuilding to do.
And does Mr Robert, never consider the simple fact, that if he had just been a bit more committed to the cause he might not have been going anywhere.
He has been well paid for his time here, and his constant outbursts have been too often forgiven, he has ran out of favours, get every penny we damn well can.
