Christophe Bouchet admits the constant abuse from Marseille supporters prompted his resignation as the club´s chairman.
Following swiftly on from Jose Anigo´s ( pictured) departure as coach, Bouchet tendered his resignation on Thursday, which was accepted by major shareholder Robert Louis Dreyfus.
Bouchet will stay in the role until a suitable replacement is found before taking up another post at Stade Velodrome.
He revealed the incessant abuse he received from fans ensured he could no longer continue as chairman of Marseille.
" We didn´t set any date for my departure," said Bouchet. " We will look for the right man to replace me.
" Anyway, I will join the supervisory board to keep continuity. This club has always missed experience. People just pass through then leave.
" I am sorry because it is selfish but I didn´t want to experience what I have experienced since the bus attack in Paris.
" I was very shocked. The outside atmosphere is tainted. I don´t want to sit in a stadium where I am abused and my wife, too.
" We know power at l´OM wears you down ten times more than anywhere else."
Meanwhile, new coach Philippe Troussier has no qualms about tackling the intimidating atmosphere within Stade Velodrome.
Troussier said: " When you have coached in Nigeria, when people shoot at you in South Africa, when you have been threatened almost everywhere in Africa, you are not worried about what you will find at Marseille."
