I honestly never thought such a richly detailed and might I add silky smooth
gaming world was possible, that`s right the game runs pretty much as good as any
other shooter but boy oh boy is there a game world to behold. Blown away is an
understatement.
This is what first greets you ater the intro cut scene:

Doesn`t look like much I agree, but just wait till you are actually standing
there and are able to freely move around - your first few minutes are just glorious.
I`ve got all the effects slapped on and just kept the res at 1024 but the game
still looks fantastic, add the sounds, the music and civilians and cars all
going around doing their thing and you have one hell of an immersive backdrop.
So what do you do the first time you boot up the game? that`s right! YOU
EXPLORE! so off I head and just as I do a cop and a guy dressed in black have a
fight and I manage to loot his body of some weapons. I continue off up the road,
the road leads off way way into the distance and to my lft is a place where cars
both old and new are on sale, further on there`s a bridge and a river with some
lovely looking relfections going, I had down some steps and find some ladders
leading into the water. In I plunge. I swim around and come back out to find a
helicopter circling over head, time to get back to the starting point methinks.
I climb the steps to a nearby building and this is where the games familiarity
with Deus Ex kicks in like a smack to the face, mouse pointer on the door -
right click and the door opens - hell even the interiors just reek of Deus Ex
placement. The difference being you head to the balcony and this huge exterior
world awaits your gaze.
I`ve done pretty much nothing else so far but my first mission is to head to the
local bar. I honestly just ran around with a huge grin on my face thinking " so
this is what Stalker will feel like" but tbh, this game is different and has its
own feel and look entirely.
Performance wise as I mentioned, I`m still stunned how smooth it all was, I do
think there was occasional stutter as the extended map regions loaded as I
continued away from the town but its nothing to worry about. The bloom effect
combined with some well placed textures, the heavy foliage areas are just great
and the game just looks so superbly realised.
Even the music when installing and the menu that greets you I`m sure you will
love, none of it feels second rate.
I`m going to be busy this evening but I simply cannot wait to get to grips with
this game, I don`t think I`ve even been this excited about installing and
initially experiencing a game in a long time - it almost feels like Stalker has
finally arrived I was that ecstatic at what I was greeted with.
Enough from me for now, all I can say is buy this game - and experience the real
next step in our beloved genre.
