English clubs chase Mido
Mido joined Marseille from Ajax
Premiership duo Newcastle and Southampton are competing to sign Marseille´s Egyptian striker Mido.
Liverpool also showed an interest in the 21-year-old but that has cooled since Bruno Cheyrou, who may have been part of any deal, moved to Marseille.
Mido´s agent Christophe Henrotay told BBC Sport: " Newcastle and Southampton are keen on Mido - Marseille want a permanent deal after a year-long loan.
" Mido would be happy to join either club - he wants to play regularly."
The Eygptian international striker moved to Marseille from Ajax last summer for £7m but struggled to establish himself after being overshadowed by the form of striker Didier Drogba, who has been linked with a transfer to Chelsea.
Even if Drogba goes to Chelsea, Henrotay believes Mido will still move to England during the summer.
In readiness for the departures of Drogba and Mido, Marseille have already bought Montpellier´s 21-year-old striker Habib Bamogo, a graduate of the famed Clairefontaine youth academy.
Bamogo scored 16 goals as his side were relegated from the French First Division last season.
Mido´s agent also confirmed that Liverpool had talked to Marseille about the Egyptian striker but had wanted to link any move to Cheyrou´s loan switch to the Ligue 1 club.
Mido left Ajax after a serious of rows with the Dutch club´s management, including a furious public bust-up with coach Ronald Koeman.
The bitter relationship led Ajax to loan the 20-year-old to Spanish side Celta Vigo in January 2003.
He made an instant impact at Celta, helping them to a European Champions League place at the end of the season.
