1- Cleveland 100, Detroit 96
Cavaliers top Pistons in debut for James, Milicic
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 7 ( Ticker) -- LeBron James may have been the main draw, but J.R. Bremer had the more impressive debut for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Bremer scored 19 points in 22 minutes to lead the Cavaliers to a 100-96 preseason triumph over the Detroit Pistons.
Bremer, a second-year guard whom Cleveland acquired in an offseason trade with the Boston Celtics, connected on 6-for-7 shots, including all three three-pointers, and 4-for-5 free throws.
James, the highly touted top overall pick in June´s NBA draft who helped draw 20,862 fans to The Palace of Auburn Hills, had eight points on 4-for-12 shooting, seven assists and three rebounds in 26 minutes.
Carlos Boozer added 15 points and 14 rebounds, Zyrdrunas Ilgauskas scored 12 points and Ricky Davis 11 for the Cavaliers, who led by as many as 23 points in the fourth quarter before the Pistons made a late charge.
Ben Wallace contributed 13 points and nine rebounds and Richard Hamilton, Corliss Williamson and Tayshaun Prince 12 points apiece for the Pistons, who were playing their first game under new coach Larry Brown.
Darko Milicic, the No. 2 draft pick, scored five points on 2-for-8 shooting in 19 minutes for the Pistons.
The Cavaliers rested Dajuan Wagner and Ira Newble, while the Pistons did not play Bob Sura, Zjelko Rebraca and Mehmet Okur.

2-Miami 86, Philadelphia 79 ( OT)
Heat Outlast Sixers in OT
SAN JUAN, Oct. 7 ( Ticker) -- Miami Heat coach Pat Riley would like to see rookie Dwyane Wade develop into a point guard. Wade appears to be much more than that.
Wade collected 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists as the Heat edged the Philadelphia 76ers in overtime, 86-79, in the preseason opener for both teams at Roberto Clemente Coliseum.
The fifth overall pick in last June´s draft, Wade played mostly shooting guard at Marquette. But he has ballhandling skills, and Riley has enough confidence in him that he did not pursue a starting point guard in the offseason.
With the Heat trailing, 77-75, in the final seconds of the fourth quarter, Wade drove and found Loren Woods, who was fouled and made two free throws to force overtime.
After scoring just seven points in the fourth quarter, Miami scored nine in the extra session while holding Philadelphia - playing with reserves and rookies - to two.
Eddie Jones scored 25 points and free agent signee Lamar Odom added 18 and nine rebounds for the Heat, who visit the 76ers in the regular season opener for both teams October 28.
Eric Snow scored 15 points and offseason acquisition Glenn Robinson added 13 for the 76ers, who played their first game under new coach Randy Ayers. An assistant for six years under Larry Brown, Ayers took over when Brown left to take the job with the Detroit Pistons.
A near-capacity crowd of 9,810 came out to see Allen Iverson, who thrilled fans here in August as part of Team USA, which won the FIBA Tournament of the Americas. Iverson scored 11 points but made just 2-of-10 shots.
Philadelphia played without injured regulars Derrick Coleman, Greg Buckner and Marc Jackson. Miami was without the injured Caron Butlerand Samaki Walker.

3-Washington 104, New York 86
Wizards´ Win Overshadows Knicks Rookies
WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 ( Ticker) -- The New York Knicks had to like what they saw from their rookie forwards. The rest of the roster was a different story.
Maciej Lampe scored 16 points and Mike Sweetney added 12 for the Knicks, who suffered a 104-86 loss to the Washington Wizards in the preseason opener for both teams.
Lampe, a 6-11 teenager from Poland who the Knicks nabbed with the first pick of the second round, made 7-of-14 shots in 26 minutes. Sweetney, selected ninth overall out of Georgetown, received a nice hand as he returned to his college arena and made 4-of-7 shots and 4-of-5 free throws.
Forward Keith Van Horn scored 10 points and was one of just two starters in double figures. Van Horn was acquired in the offseason from Philadelphia in a four-team trade that sent the popular Latrell Sprewell to Minnesota and creates a logjam in the frontcourt.
The Knicks surrendered 60 points in the first half and trailed by as many as 27 in the second half. The Wizards got a spark from Larry Hughes, who scored 17 points to lead five players in double figures.
Guard Gilbert Arenas, signed as a free agent in the offseason, had 11 points and five assists in 26 minutes for Washington. Rookie guard Steve Blake, a Maryland product, scored seven points off the bench.
Injured players Allan Houston and Antonio McDyess sat out for New York. Forward Jared Jeffries, who missed almost all of his rookie season due to injury, did not play for Washington.

4-Dallas 99, Orlando 89
Rookies Daniels, Howard Pace Mavericks
DALLAS, Oct. 7 ( Ticker) -- Rookies Marquis Daniels and Josh Howard had solid debuts for the Dallas Mavericks.
Daniels contributed 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting with six rebounds and Howard added 12 and seven as the Mavericks defeated the Orlando Magic, 99-89, in their first preseason contest.
Dirk Nowitzki scored 16 points, Steve Nash added 12 and offseason acquisition Danny Fortson 10 for the Mavericks, who reached the Western Conference finals last season.
Dallas held a five-point lead at the break and opened an 89-68 advantage early in the fourth quarter before Orlando made a late charge.
Second-year players Gordan Giricek and Drew Gooden paced the Magic with 21 and 15 points, respectively. Superstar Tracy McGrady had 10 on just 2-of-11 shooting for Orlando, which shot just under 41 percent.
Dallas rested Michael Finley and offseason pickup Antawn Jamison. Orlando was without forward Pat Garrity, who is recovering from surgery.
