KONAMI GAMERS´ DAY, SAN FRANCISCO - January 16, 2003 - Leading videogame publisher Konami of America Inc. today revealed the in-game feature set for the highly-anticipated World Soccer Winning Eleven 6 International ( WE6) for Sony PlayStation® 2. The most popular soccer franchise in Europe and Japan, WE6 will be available in the United States in March 2003. Having sold over 2.4 million units in Europe and Japan since its debut in April 2002, WE6 ( known as Pro Evolution Soccer in Europe) is poised to up the ante for soccer simulation supremacy in the United States.
In WE6, players choose from 54 national teams and 40 club teams in five game modes - Exhibition, League, Cup, Practice and Master League. The game´s most popular mode, the Master League, is highlighted by a wealth of management options and features. The Master League sets players in the third division where they must gain points to pay players´ salaries and improve their squads. With the ultimate goal to move to the top of the first division, teams are promoted or relegated at the end of the year based on performance. Along the way, those with an eye on front-office moves can negotiate wages and contracts as they try to lure players from other teams.
Players can improve their skills for game-time action in the UMBRO Training Mode, which includes a Tutorial, Free Practice and Skills Challenge. With the chance to unlock hidden players, the Skills Challenge includes six mini-games that prepare players for live action.
WE6 combines unprecedented player physics with a gameplay style that flawlessly recreates the speed and excitement of real-life soccer. Beautiful player models equipped with hundreds of animations create amazingly life-like athletes who fight tooth and nail for every goal in one of 14 brilliantly rendered stadiums. Dozens of unique animations for each possible action give players a unique gaming experience every time they take to the pitch.
Each of the game´s thousands of international soccer stars are equipped with A.I. so intelligent that each player reacts and adjusts to every possible on-field situation. The computer-controlled teammates work proactively to take intelligent positions and make strategic cuts or streaks in an effort to create scoring opportunities. Gamers will notice a genuine distinction between players with varying skill levels. Being a team sport, however, the soccer teams in WE6 are designed to play as a group. The innovative "Teamwork Rating" monitors each team´s chemistry and improves over time as the players gel with their teammates.
