Rob Enderle of Digital Trends recently wrote his thoughts regarding two upcoming biggies for the Xbox 360: Halo 3 and Shadowrun.Enderle discussed how good it can be for the Xbox 360 to have a deeper multiplayer online experience and what this spells out for the console wars, especially for the Sony PlayStation 3.
The article praised Shadowrun and Halo 3 for developing titles that would push the hardware to its limits. Add to that the fact that Halo 3´s online battlefields will be massive and can support more players than ever imagined. Shadowrun will have 16 players tops per game but we suppose the developers thought it was best for the SNES original to be played in smaller bunches.
"Sony is in trouble if these games take off. They don’t even do multi-player that well yet, MMOGs are well out of their reach and they have effectively blocked every attempt their PC unit has made to work with their game platform," argues Enderle.
He also predicted what response gamers may take, saying "this creates the very real possibility that Sony PC users will be more likely to choose an Xbox 360 over Playstation 3 if they want to experience cross-platform play."
Another point the article established was that the Xbox 360 brings a more or less level playing field to the MMO circuit. Unlike PCs, everyone will have almost the same hardware set and all the Xbox Live users will be on broadband. That means there will probably be less lag and more fun for the users.
And how does the Wii figure into all of this? Enderle says "I don’t see these latest efforts from Microsoft having much impact. Nintendo is more physical and tends to play to a younger crowd. Nintendo also has a very attractive price point so they should be able to sleep easy while continuing to enjoy an impressive sales ramp."
