Regarding the integral future of the gaming and movie industry: Entis believes this trend will only grow in the future. Over the long term, he believes the two fields will merge to the point where people will speak of computer graphics technicians who work in film and those who work in the interactive space as the same large and talented community. The collaboration that´s going on today, thanks to consoles like PS3™, is just the tip of the interactive iceberg.

"We´re really just scratching the surface with PS3™ launch titles," said Entis. "It´s a powerful piece of hardware. It´s also complex. I think it´s going to take people quite a while to unlock the full potential of the machine."
Entis said that the great graphics on the PS3 will provide more than just tremendous visual fidelity. He thinks over the next five years, what´s more interesting, given the power of this machine (particularly in simulation), are the advances we´ll see in AI (artificial intelligence), physics (particularly fluid dynamics simulations), and living worlds where complex systems have to be orchestrated to work together.
"These are all areas where we´ve seen bits and pieces in the past, but narrow slivers," said Entis. "Over the next five years games will see much richer, deeper simulations. We´re going to see some fresh product ideas and maybe some big breakthroughs in interactivity."

"Whether or not we have our Citizen Kane, that´s pure speculation; but the fact that we´ll have games that will be breaking through to new levels of emotions and involvement, it´s absolutely going to happen," said Entis. "It´s not just about visual fidelity, because you don´t really need that for emotional involvement. In some cases, visual fidelity is an impediment to emotional connection. But what we´re learning across the industry is that emotional believability, character performance, how we interact with interesting characters; from game to game and year to year there are incremental steps. And there are leaps from time to time, and PS3™ sure helps. It gives game makers more tools and better odds at getting there."
