"Sony Computer Entertainment America has offered the first usage statistics pertinent to the PlayStation network, claiming that over 1.3 million people have signed up for the PS3´s online service.
According to a report from GameSpot, Sony Computer Entertainment America has just unveiled a new set of statistics regarding the PlayStation Network. Dave Karraker, SCEA´s senior director of corporate communications, stated that more than 1.3 million PlayStation 3 users have signed onto the free online network, with 600,000 located in North America alone.
Karraker states that approximately 3.7 million pieces of content have been downloaded from the PlayStation Store worldwide, but downloadable content refers to games, demos, trailers, and updates. Karraker´s statistics failed to elucidate what percentage of this content was games, what percentage was demos, etc...
The fact that all of the PlayStation Network´s multiplayer functionality can be accessed free of charge has succeeded in bringing gamers to the PS3, but the fact remains that Xbox Live is still the industry leader in terms of online network services for consoles. GamePro reported in early March that the Xbox Live network, which has been in business since 2002, had already subscribed its six millionth customer after more than four years of existence."

Ce sont des bons chiffres comparés au Xbox Live qui compte seulement 6 millions d´inscrits depuis 2002.
