Updated: Nintendo will be bringing Dual Screen Gaming to the Portable Market. A Picture in Picture take on Gaming.
Late tonight, Nintendo has just announced a very innovative approach to play videogames - two viewable seperate screens in the palm of your hands. It will be released later this year and is currently being called Nintendo DS.
From the information gathered today, players will be able to view two different perspectives of a game, for instance in a game a player can view the whole field of a Football game, but at the same time concentrate on a single character in the game; such as a tackle or a touchdown.
Nintendo DS will make it possible to perform the tasks in real time of the whole playing field in a game without having to change camera angles or messing with the options in a game.
Tonight´s announcement is only a mere glimpse of the wonderous additional features that Nintendo will be happy to show off at this year´s upcoming E3 in May.
" We have developed Nintendo DS based upon a completely different concept from existing game devices in order to provide players with a unique entertainment experience for the 21st century," explains Satoru Iwata, Nintendo president.
The Nintendo DS will feature two seperate 3-inch TFT LCD, seperate processor, and a semiconductor of memory up to 1 Gigabit. It is schedule to be released worldwide before the end of 2004.
Not only is Nintendo developing software for this new innovative gaming device, third-party game developers are also in the works for this new handheld.
Nintendo DS however is not the next Game Boy Advance and will be marketed totally seperate from the GBA.
Update: I felt that this information should also be read. The PSP as of now has a maximum RAM size of 8 MB. The Nintendo DS has currently 1 Gigabit of RAM which is around 128 MB of RAM.
