Raccoon City is a fictional metropolis depicted in Capcom´s survival horror video game series Resident Evil and the setting for the earlier games in the main series (from Resident Evil 0 up until Resident Evil 3), as well as the Resident Evil Outbreak series.
Raccoon City is based upon a typical everyday industrial and commercial mid-western American city but in a generically fabricated kind of way. It is never revealed in which U.S. state Raccoon City is located. The novelizations of the games by S.D. Perry states that its located in Pennsylvania, however they are not officially recognized by Capcom as part of the series´ canon.
It is mostly controlled by the Umbrella Corporation (who contributed 50% of the city´s income) and located south to a vast mountain landscape covered by forest, known as the Arklay Mountains. Raccoon Forest stretches into the Arklay Mountains and is located to the north. This is where both the management training facility (Resident Evil 0), and Spencer Mansion are located.
