Salut a tous,

This picture is a colour photo which was taken in Pakistan in the 21st century by Luciano Benetton, the famous Italian leader of “Benetton family” clothing company. The photo comes from Benetton site web. is a full shot
It deals with the child labour and her living conditions.

The scene takes place in a building site in Pakistan probably in the afternoon according to the light and the blue sky. We can see children who are working, which is called “child labour”. Child labour is very frequent in Pakistan despite that laws have been recently passed and limit child labour. In Pakistan and all over the world 11 million children, aged four to fourteen, often working in brutal and squalid conditions.

- in the foreground of the photo : we can see three children. This is a full shot. The one who’s on the left is a dark-haired boy and he’s pushing a wheelbarrow which contains bricks. He wears a strip tee-shirt blue and yellow and he’s about 7 years old.
The other one on the right is carrying a heavy brick. She may be a girl. She wears a red tee-shirt and a blue jean, she has curly hair and she’s chubby. She’s probably no more than 5 years old.
The third child who is farther looks like a girl. She’s looking the photographer and she wears a dress and a white and orange hat. She is also around 5.
All their clothes are very dusty due to the surrounding in which they’re working and they’re all standing with nothing to take a rest.

- background : There are three working-men who are considered bricks. There’s a contrast between this ground where we are shown working-men which is absolutely ordinary, and the foreground where we can see children working.

-at last in the distance: we can notice a donkey and as far as the eye can see high rocks.

The expression of the three children brings out us they are exhausted of working in these conditions without rest, and sun-exposed. They aren’t suitable for this kind of work but yet they have certainly worked since early the morning until late the evening.

On the one hand the photographer wants to point out horrible living conditions of child labour and he wants to sit up and take notice people who live comfortably. On the other hand Benetton wants to denounce countries like Pakistan, India … where many children are exploited in order to produce more and more.

According to me this photo is revealing of child labour, that’s why I chose it. Moreover what’s interesting is the fact the reader has a global point of view and the neutral shot allows us to have our own point of view.
I found this photo on the Benetton’s website.

Merci d'avance pour vos conseils et vos réactions :)
