quand quelque chose a commencé dans le passé et continue dans le présent il faut utiliser un present perfect
quand quelque chose s´est passé dans le passé à une date précise il faut utiliser un preterit

3)There was no-one in this castle since the 18th century

4)I saw my best friend last Saturday afternoon
