When I hear a french sentence, I translate it into english in my mind. That´s quite easy to do : when I don´t know the word I want to use, I search it later ...

Translating "word by word" isn´t a good idea because words´ position change sometimes.

Yeah of course, it doesn´t work everytimes.

But generally, I don´t translate whole sentences, just part of them, and some words which aren´t part of expressions (or I use an equivalent)

And when I say I "translate in my mind", it´s not just "word by word", it´s something strange but the sentences appear in my mind, just like if I were speaking french
