" Cooper Perfume still"
19th century pharmacists not only compounded medecine preparations, but also made perfumes, cosmetics, paints, and varnishes. Perfumes were made of an alcohol based to which scented ingredients will be added. The ingredients would be placed in a perfume still and heated until the alcohol evaporated and rose to the globe at the top of the still. Because copper remains relatively cool even heated, the alcohol would recondense in the globe of the still and drip out the cone with the scent infused. Popular 19th century perfumes included : New Mowed Hay, Rose, Patchouli, Lavender, Violet and Neroli ( orange blossom)
