I input my CD Key correctly but I get an Invalid CD KEY error when trying to play multiplayer.
Answer
There are a variety of factors which can cause an Invalid CD Key error message.
The foremost reason for these errors is entering your CD Key in upper case letters. Just to be safe, you will want to enter your CD Key again in all lower case letters.
1) Launch the multiplayer game.
2) Click the Options button.
3) Click the Enter CD Key option.
4) Type your CD Key in over again in lower case letters.
You may also receive this error if you are moving rapidly between different servers. The Master Server keeps a record of your CD Key, IP address, and which server you’re in. If you leave a server then jump into a new one the Master Server may see this as multiple uses of the same key. Generally speaking, it’s a good idea to wait 5-10 minutes before joining a new server, especially if you’ve been dropped from the previous server due to a connection problem.
Another possibility is something in your network stack is not allowing the game to connect to the id Master server. This is very common when using different methods of sharing an internet connection such as ICS, NAT, IP Masquerading, and some router configurations.
The problem could be server specific as well. We have encountered some instances where pressing ENTER once the invalid CD Key error appears will bypass it and allow you into the server. You may also want to try joining a different server altogether.
The final cause for this type of problem is a little more complex. id and Grey Matter have been actively scanning message boards for compromised CD Keys. If by some chance your Key has been made public, then id and Grey Matter will ban that Key from the servers and it will not function again. If your Key has been banned there is no way to unban it.

1) Create a new folder on your desktop and call it key. Right-click on a blank area on your desktop and highlight New and then click Folder, call this Folder " key"(the name is not important, this will serve as a backup folder for your key file)
2) Click the Start button > Find/Files or Folders
3) Type RTCWkey in the text box.
4) Click the Find Now button.
5) Once the file is found right-click on it and select Copy.
6) Go back to the key folder you created on your desktop and open it.
7) With the key folder open select Edit/Paste, this should paste the RTCW key in the folder.
8) Close the key folder.
9) If you still have your Find window open right-click on the file again and open it with WordPad.
10) Your CD Key should be in here, verify that the entire CD Key is in place. If not, add numbers that are missing. Save the file, make sure to save it EXACTLY with the same name, make sure there is no " .txt" extension on it.
11) Now try to launch the game.
NOTE: The file will get written over periodically after use. To make sure the key stays the way it is edited, right-click on the file after editing and click Properties. Check Read Only to prevent the file from being written over.
