Kuna Scores 113 Points in Croatia
15.02.2006
Move over Wilt and Kobe.
Less than a month after Kobe Bryant poured in 81 points to lead the Los Angeles Lakers past Toronto, and more than four decades after Wilt Chamberlain´s 100-points in a game for the Philadelphia Warriors against the New York Knicks, a Matej Kuna points explosion has grabbed headlines in Europe.
Kuna, 21, a guard for Belisce in Croatia´s second division, scored 113 in a 159-77 win over Pozega.
He buried 20 three-pointers on the night.
"I know that the late Drazen Petrovic scored 112 points against Olimpija back in the old Yugoslavian league, and I remember Kobe Bryant of Los Angeles Lakers recently scoring 81 points in an NBA game," said a stunned Kuna.
"It was just great, whatever I tried, it worked.
"We had many counter-attacks in the first and second quarter, so by the end of the first half, I had already scored 43 points.
"Later, when the more experienced (Hrvoje) Camagajevac and (Mato) Mucic left the court, my team-mates realised that this would be my night and they started assisting me, and I scored everything out of it.
"This game will most certainly be one of my happiest moments in entire career."
His effort against Pozega is certain to capture the attention of big clubs.
"My major goal is to graduate with my Croatian and English language studies," he said. "I´ve always dreamed about first division games, but university is still number one for me
