Release Date: August, 2004 (estimated)
Release Date Notes: (9/19/01) Chan has mentioned that filming could start as early as late 2002 (which would suggest a summer, 2003 release), but until there is a script and a firm production start date, that´s just a "maybe." (10/29/01) Jackie Chan confirmed this week that 2003 is indeed the target, but that they may very well miss it. (8/20/02) With filming now scheduled to start in January, 2004, it appears likely that New Line is aiming for an early August, 2004 release, much like the August releases of the first two films. Maybe 8/6/04 or 8/13/04? The three year gap between 2001 and 2004 is sort of to be expected, considering that there was also three years between the first two films.
Distributor: New Line Cinema
Production Company: Spyglass Entertainment (The Vow, Mage, The Recruit), Arthur Sarkissian Productions (the first two "Rush Hour" movies, While You Were Sleeping)
Cast: Jackie Chan (Chief Inspector Lee), Chris Tucker (Detective James Carter); other cast not announced yet.
Cast Notes: In the end credits of Rush Hour 2, Chris Tucker confirmed that John Lone (who played Ricky Tan) would not be returning for this film.
Director: Brett Ratner (Red Dragon, Rush Hour, Money Talks, Rush Hour 2)
Screenwriter: Not announced yet. Until one is hired, it would be premature to speculate about when this film might happen; scripts can take years to be developed (although, obviously, some films depend upon the script more than others).
Based Upon: This is the second sequel to the 1998 hit film, Rush Hour, which scored $141 million in the USA on a budget of less than $35 million. Rush Hour 2, in 2001, took in over $206 million (as of 9/19/01) in the USA on a budget of around $90 million.
Premise: Not much is known yet (9/19/01) about this film´s premise, except that it will be set primarily somewhere on the continent of Africa. Jackie Chan told Empire Online that he prefers Egypt, while Tucker prefers South Africa. Possibly, like in Rush Hour 2, they´ll just do both, starting in one, and then moving to the other? One has to wonder, that if they go to Egypt, we may get to see Jackie doing his kung fu on a pyramid? (3/29/02) New Line´s Bob Shaye told About.com that this may instead be set in New York City. (8/20/02) That same site has since spoken to director Brett Ratner, who confirmed the New York City setting, plus one other where both heroes will be "fish out of water."
Filming: Production is scheduled to start in January, 2004 (source: Brett Ratner, talking to About.com).
Genre: Action, African-American, Comedy, Martial Arts, Sequel
Status: In Development
