Monday, Jul 19, 2004
Benfica midfielder Tiago has completed his medical today after Chelsea were given permission to speak to him.
He will discuss personal terms tomorrow, Tuesday.
The Portuguese international did not get off the bench in Euro´04, but at just 23 years of age was a significant factor in his club beating José Mourinho´s Porto in the Portuguese Cup Final.
He broke into Braga´s team in 1999/00 and by December 2001 had played 60 League games. He moved on to Benfica and had an outstanding 2002/3 campaign, scoring 13 goals in 31 League games.
By this time he was established in the national squad, making his debut in November 2002 in a friendly against Scotland. He has won 21 Under 21s caps. He has ten full caps including the 1-1 friendly with England earlier this year when he came on for Rui Costa and shared the pitch with Wayne Bridge and Joe Cole.
