Chelsea have made a bid for Paris Saint Germain defender Gabriel Heinze, according to reports in France.
With The Blues having had a new improved €14 million ( £9.6 million) offer for Valencia´s Argentine stopper Roberto Ayala turned down on Monday, Le Parisien reports that Claudio Ranieri has turned his attentions to his international team-mate in the French capital.
The paper says billionaire owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to furnish PSG with €10 million ( £6.8 million) in order for them to agree to sell their highly-rated South American.
PSG coach Vahid Halilhodzic has expressed his desire to strengthen his side in the January transfer window, and although the loss of the ex-Real Valladolid man would be a blow, the Bosnian could use the funds to bolster other areas of his squad.
Heinze has recently squabbled with Halilhodzic over his position in the team and may welcome a chance to link up with fellow countrymen Juan Sebastian Veron and Hernan Crespo in West London.
With French stalwart Marcel Desailly unlikely to continue his illustrious career at Stamford Bridge next season, Ranieri is seeking a top class replacement to compete alongside John Terry and William Gallas.
