Everton have agreed a £1.25m deal for Motherwell´s Scotland striker, James McFadden.

The 20-year-old has been the subject of intense speculation since bursting on to the scene at Fir Park.

And he is now on his way to Goodison Park after Everton boss David Moyes made an improved offer to Motherwell before Monday´s transfer deadline.

Spurs sign Konchesky

Spurs have signed Charlton Athletic defender Paul Konchesky on a one-month loan - with defender Chris Perry signing a similar deal at The Valley.

Atletico Madrid unveiled Uruguayan Gonzalo de los Santos on Monday after the midfielder joined the club from Spanish first division rivals Valencia.

The 27-year-old signed a season-long loan deal with Atletico after being deemed surplus to requirements by Valencia coach Rafa Benitez.

De los Santos, among a host of midfielders signed by Atletico in the close season, said he was relishing the challenge of trying to win his place in the starting line-up at the Calderon.

" Competition for places is always a good thing for the team," he told reporters on Monday. " It is now up to me to work hard and make things difficult for the coach."

Atletico, who lost their opening match of the season at Sevilla, play promoted Albacete at home on Wednesday.

Wolves capture Kachloul

Kachloul has spent two years at Villa
Aston Villa midfielder Hassan Kachloul has joined Wolves on loan until 16 January.
The Moroccan international has signed for Dave Jones´ side after failing to win a place at Villa Park under David O´Leary.

Kachloul had fallen out of favour with the Midlands club´s previous manager Graham Taylor last season and made only one first-team appearance during the whole campaign.

Jones was desperate to bolster his options at Wolves after a disastrous start to the season which has seen them claim just one point from four games.

Rapid Bucharest striker Florin Bratu and National Bucharest midfielder Ovidiu Petre signed three-year deals with Galatasaray in Istanbul on Monday, the players´ agent said.

" Bratu is not eligible for the Champions League while Petre is because he did not play with his former team National in an European competition this season," Victor Becali told Reuters.

Becali said both players may extend their contracts for a further two years if both sides agree.

Bratu and Petre joined defender Gabriel Tamas, formerly with Dinamo Bucharest, at Galatasaray. Bratu and Tamas were called up by Romania for this month´s European qualifiers against Luxembourg and Denmark.

Le directeur général du Real Madrid, l´Argentin Jorge Valdano, a déclaré, lundi sur TVE, que l´effectif du club était « un peu juste » et que le Real procéderait à des « ajustements en décembre » lors du mercato, surtout en défense.

« Nous sommes un peu juste. Cela mettra à l´épreuve l´entraîneur Carlos Queiroz et l´effectif. Mais, nous espérons faire des ajustements en décembre », a affirmé M. Valdano.

Le Real, qui présente une ligne offensive de rêve avec David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Ronaldo ou Raul, possède un effectif limité dans son secteur défensif depuis les départs des milieux français Claude Makelele ( Chelsea), espagnol Albert Celades ( Bordeaux) et brésilien Flavio Conceiçao ( Borussia).

Il ne dispose donc plus que d´un seul joueur dont c´est le poste de prédilection, l´Argentin Esteban Cambiasso, même si son compatriote Santiago Solari et l´international espagnol Guti ont déjà joué à ce poste sans vraiment convaincre.

Mardi contre Villarreal, le Real pourrait même être obligé d´aligner à ce poste le jeune Espagnol Borja dont ce serait les premières minutes en Liga espagnole, Cambiasso étant appelé en équipe d´Argentine.

En défense centrale, la situation est similaire. Le club n´a pas recruté et a laissé partir son Brésilien Julio Cesar ( Saragosse) et s´est débarrassé de son ancien capitaine, l´international espagnol Hierro ( Qatar).

Les Madrilènes ne possèdent donc plus que deux défenseurs centraux aguerris : les espagnols Ivan Helguera et Francisco Pavon. Ce dernier, âgé de 23 ans, est encore un peu tendre mais il amorce sa troisième saison au sein de l´équipe première.

En réserve, Carlos Queiroz ne dispose que du jeune Ruben crédité de trois matches en première division... Contre Majorque et le Betis Séville, l´entraîneur a d´ailleurs préféré aligner, sans grand succès, Raul Bravo, arrière gauche de métier, au poste de défenseur central.

L´Olympique Lyonnais a peut-être trouvé son joker en la personne du défenseur international camerounais Thimothée Atouba qui évolue en Suisse, au FC Bâle. Celui-ci, qui coûterait 5 millions d´euros, a failli signer au Paris SG cet été.

Mais la Ligue de football professionnel a précisé sur son site internet qu´une équipe ne pouvait recruter un joueur en tant que joker qu´à la seule condition qu´il évolue déjà dans le championnat de France.

Si Atouba venait toutefois à rejoindre l´OL, il ne pourrait cependant pas être aligné au premier tour de la prochaine Ligue des champions, la date limite d´inscritpion des joueurs retenus pour cette épreuve étant écoulée depuis lundi midi.

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has failed in a last-gasp deadline day move for Tottenham striker Sergei Rebrov, although the Reebok Stadium boss did sign Burnley winger Glen Little on a month´s loan.
Rebrov is currently on loan at Fenerbahce after his £11m move from Dynamo Kiev to Spurs failed to live up to expectations.

He had agreed personal terms with Bolton but the club were left frustrated after the Home Office denied the 29-year-old the necessary paperwork before Monday´s transfer deadline.

Allardyce said: " I´m really disappointed to miss out on Sergei.

" Unfortunately we´ve been thwarted on his work permit application.

Portsmouth keeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi has left the club to play in Denmark following the signing of Pavel Srnicek.
Kawaguchi, who had fallen behind Shaka Hislop and Srnicek in the Fratton Park pecking order, has joined FC Nordsjaelland on a two-year contract.

The Japanese keeper had been at Pompey for just under two years but played only a handful of games under Graham Rix.

He lost his place when Dave Beasant rejoined the club and also spent the World Cup finals in his homeland on the bench.

Harry Redknapp restored him to the Portsmouth line-up for the final match of last season after the club had already clinched the Nationwide League Division One title.

" It is sad that things did not work out here, but I´m sure if he can recapture some form he could regain his international place," said Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie.
