=>"Keegan eyes summer sales "

Kevin Keegan is planning to bring in new faces in the summer as he tries to improve his erratic Manchester City side.
City slumped to a 5-0 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday and Keegan was far from impressed by the reaction of the players following the game.

"I said to them afterwards ´come on, tell me something, some of you answer me back´, but they couldn´t," he told BBC GMR.

"I think we will look in the summer for some good players who are going to cost very little, and there might be plenty around.

"We are nowhere near where I want this club to be and nowhere near where this club wants to be.

"A lot of people have let themselves down."

Leaky defence

City´s problems appear to lie in defence, as they have let in 49 goals in 31 games.

Only West Ham and Sunderland have conceded more in the top flight.

Keegan also has disciplinary problems, with central defender Steve Howey refusing to travel to Stamford Bridge after failing to make the starting line-up.

Keegan had to bring in Sylvain Distin, who was suffering from a virus, for the Chelsea defeat.

"I have never doubted your abilities as a coach and, equally, do recognise that there have been many achievements during your time at the club of which you can rightly be proud.

"Obviously, our position in the Premier League both this year and last year has been disappointing, particularly given the degree of investment and resources provided, and I am sure you would be the first to agree."

A suivre...

=>Arsenal have warned the club´s biggest earners to "get real" when it comes to negotiating pay rises - or face being sold.

Chairman Peter Hill-Wood claims the Gunners could let top players like Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires leave if they demand huge rises.

The Gunners are committed to their switch to a new £300m state-of-the-art stadium in Ashburton Grove, which Hill-Wood says has hit boss Arsene Wenger´s transfer budget.

The Frenchman will have only around £10m available this summer for new signings.

Hill-Wood insists the club are not prepared to risk financial ruin by agreeing to lucrative contracts.

"Players generally will have to get real," he told the Daily Express.

"They have to realise that wages are no longer going to move out of control.

"It is possible that players like Vieira and Pires will leave, unless they face facts.

"We cannot possible sanction a massive increase in the wage bill.

"It has been steadily increasing, but in recent years it has escalated by 25 to 20%. That is no longer sustainable.

"The wage bill will have to be more in line with inflation, and that´s how it should be."

Hill-Wood added: "Of course, we would make an exception for an exceptional player, and Patrick Vieira is an exceptional player.

"We want them to sign new deals, but there is a limit to how much can offer them - and that´s it."
